guide and accommodation in Harare  (1 Answer)

My daughter and I are doing a 2 week small group tour of Zim. in July this year. We want to go to Harare a couple of days early, and look up places my late husband lived in and worked at during the 1950's....changed a lot, of course.I am wanting to know if there is a B&B not too far from the city, which might also offer a tour around for a couple of hours. If not, does anyone know of an accredited guide who might takes us around
Many thanks,
jillikins.

Local fixer - guide in Zimbabwe  (1 Answer)

Hello all, I'm working on a couple of articles about Zimbabwe. I'm looking for a local guide/fixer that can help me to get in touch with people who work in the tourism industry there, and (same or other person) that will join me towards the Mozambique border, as I'm writing a part about the land mines clean up there. All hints towards people who can help out is more than welcome. French or English speaking is a must. Koen

Victoria Falls to Kariba  (1 Answer)

I am planning on traveling around Zimbabwe from mid October to mid November, since October is the last recommended month to watch the wild life I have decided to spend this two weeks in the Hwange park and Mana Pools ( staying in Victoria Falls and Kariba). There is a ferry that goes from Lbizi to Kariba but it wont be operating around this time. Does anyone know how else can I get to Kariba without having to go to Harare?

driving in zim  (1 Answer)

How real and intense is police corruption in Zim? We would like to go from Kruger to Zambia and Malawi and ideally go through Zim. But it needs to be a positive experience :-) Any views?

Advise that you avoid Zimbabwe for the next few days  (15 Answers)

More of a travel advisory than a question, but unfortunately there is nowhere else to post this where it's visible.
Reports in the media this morning indicate that Robert Mugabe's ZANU-PF party have 'won' the election in Zimbabwe.
Given the violence that has followed the last two elections (whose result was the subject of intense debate and cynicism), sadly it seems likely that there is a risk of similar violence.
I would therefore strongly advise that you avoid any non essential travel there for the foreseeable future: although the previous violence did not involve many foreigners, there is always the risk of finding yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
If you're planning to visit Vic Falls, then the Zambian side (Livingstone) will not be affected.
Regards
Cathy

where should at least 100 students stay for a weekend long conference that's not ZIPAM in darwendale  (1 Answer)

we wish to host at least 100 students for a students conference in Zimbabwe somewhere not far from the capital Harare and want to know if anyone would know of such a place. Last year they had their conference at a ZIPAM facility in Darwendale and so a place with similar cost and catering would be just fine.

Arriving to zimbabwe  (2 Answers)

Hey,

I would like to know wht is the safest way to get from Johannesburg to Bulawayo.
I know there are flights but they are too expensive. Also, I've heard that taking a bus from park station is not safe for tourists.

What do you recommend?

Suggestions for 1 Week in southern Africa  (1 Answer)

I leave in 11 days for Johannesburg and will be spending the 2nd week of my 2 week stay on a private game reserve. My question is where should I spend my first week? I've been to South Africa before visiting Capetown, wine country, Durban, rafting in Swaziland, and Kruger. Have had little time to plan and am rather overwhelmed. Am a single female traveling on my own this time and am on a budget. Zimbabwe? Mozambique? I'm game for an adventure but really need some guidance. Open to busing it or flying.

Weather in May  (4 Answers)

Can anyone tell me what the weather is usually like in May. I travel light so I was only going to take one fleece jumper and a waterproof jacket. Should I take another fleece jacket for the nights too?

I'll be doing some camping. I have a 3 season sleeping bag and planned to sleep in tracksuit trousers and a long sleeved t-shirt. hould I bring a thermal vest too?

I feel the cold easily. I'm from the UK though so I am used to cold, cold weather.

Planning to visit Harare and Bulawayo - 29Dec to 02Jan2013  (1 Answer)

What would you recommend for this forthcoming trip? I aim to spend a clubbing and fun period between Harare (28 to 30 Dec) and Bulawayo (new years eve and new years day plus). I have established a place to stay in Harare for the days (Meikles Hotel). Will hire a car to Bulawayo. Bulawayo hotel reviews do not seem too positive though. Should I stay in Harare for New Year's Eve and rather party there? I have given up this time on the Vic Falls visit during that time. I will do it during the year for a long weekend and just focus on it. Maybe from the Zambia side. I am from South Africa. Really disappointed by accommodation reviews in Bulawayo and this is putting me off. Please help.

Walks with Lions, Cheetah Experience

In our trip this May, we will have an opportunity to "walk with lion (cubs)" at Victoria Falls, and to do the "cheetah experience" at Bloemfentein, South Africa.

If anyone has seen both of these attractions, is one more worthwhile than the other?

Getting a VISA  (3 Answers)

Was also wondering about getting a VISA for Zimbabwe. I've read that you can "apply for one when entering the country" - is that easy to do and/or the cheapest option? I would be doing this at a land crossing, coming in from Botswana, if that makes a difference (maybe what I read was for if you are flying in only??)

If that's not a good option, what is the best way to obtain a VISA?

ZIMBABWE TRAVEL / SAFETY & FINANCIAL DETAILS  (13 Answers)

we are planning to travel among Zimbabwe & Mozambik, and I have some questions regarding Zimbabwe as below, I'd appreciate if anybody help, Thank You and the best, Berna Kanbay

1) FLIGHT CONVENIENCE ? We have learned that Air Zimbabwe pilots are currently on strike. No Air Zimbabwe flights are currently operating internally or internationally including Harare -London Gatwick route. Does anybody have the most updatest information about flight convenience ?

2) VISA PROBLEM ? Zimbabwe requires visa and after leaving commonwealth its no longer represented by English embassy, for that reason we have contacted with local authorities in Zimbabwe by phone, and we are asked to send our passaports to Zimbabwe !!! Naturally we did not . So how is it possible to get visa from Zimbabwe ? Are there any agencies You may advise in order to get visa safe and properly ? ( maybe there is a way to get a visa via a seperate paper submitted upon sent passaport jpegs )

3) HYPERINFLATION - OFTEN CHANGING RATES IN EXCHANGE ? Considering the 2008 inflation rate as % 232 million, and local people are using gold instead of zimbabwe dolar, which is the most clever way to exchange from Euro or US Dolar to Zimbabwe dolar.

Livingstone to Victoria Falls Town?  (2 Answers)

Hi,

We are planning a canoe safari on the Zambezi in December and I need to get to Kariba Town and will probably be landing in Livingstone. The tour operator will be able to arrange transport from Vic Falls town to Kariba for100.

What are my options from travelling from Livingstone (Zambia) to Vic Falls town (Zim)? What are the costs?

Will it be cheaper to make my own way to Kariba?

Any assistance is much appreciated.

Thanks

Overlanding from SA to Kenya  (10 Answers)

Hi everyone

My girlfriend and I will be arriving in Jo'burg in late April 2010. We intend to fly home from Nairobi roughly 11 weeks later at the end of July.

Trying to plan our route at the moment and we'd like to incorporate an overlanding tour, charity work, beach time and safari. Ideal scenario would include SA, Namibi, Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lake Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

What do you think we should definitely see/go to and how should we get around? Our budget is £40 for the two of us per day. All suggestions welcome.

Cheers
Tom
