We will be in Zadar for one day in September, a stop on our cruise . Not having visited Zadar before we are looking for ideas as to how to spend our day. Alternatively are there likely to be any local tour operators at the port when our cruise ship docks?

Getting from Zadar to Rijeka  (4 Answers)

We are travelling to Croatia in 4 months times and are wanting to book a tour to Krka national park. The tour returns to Zadar at 5ish. We are needing to get to Rijeka that night and the only bus I can find is 6.15. I'm a little concerned we won't get back in time to catch it. Is there any other buses/trains that will get us there.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Zadar - How many days?  (2 Answers)

My wife and I will be flying into Zadar this September and are planning to spend a few days there, before travelling onto Bosnia.
We have two weeks booked, and initially were thinking one week in each location, and I have read that there are a few National Parks and Islands worth visiting in the surrounding area, and of course the city itself.

My question, for anyone that has been there, is how many days would should we aim to stay in Zadar before moving on? Is one week too long, or does it sound about right?

Thanks in advance

Sea Organ and Plitvice Lakes from the airport  (3 Answers)

Hi everyone,
We are 3 girls studying in Germany. We really love Sea Organ and Greeting To The Sun. How can we get there from the Zadar Airport by public transportation like bus? Is there any special place to experience night life in Zadar?
We also want to visit the Plitvice Lake. Is it easy to get there from the airport by bus? Do we have to book bus tickets online or we just simply buy them when we come?
Thanks in advance,

Trip to Zadar  (13 Answers)

We are coming to Zadar for 10 days in September (from 6th until 16th) and staying near to the old town part. We want to eat good local/national food, see interesting things ( I already know all the tourstic things, like sea organs,The Greeting to the Sun, Peoples square and others, maybe You can tell smth more local, good places to go, to eat, to take a look etc.?). We are going by car, so if it is not in the center in the city it is Ok.
And also we want to go clubbing a few evening there, which one is the best bar/club in Zadar, where prices ar not in the sky? :)
I would be gratefull for any answer! Thank You!

Suggested intinary  (5 Answers)

Hi, we are a family with 2 young children (3,6) travelling to Croatia in the summer. We have 12 nights flying into Dubrovnik and out of Zadar. I have already booked 4 nights in Dubrovnik but looking for suggested intinary to get to Zadar for our flight out. My wife is not very keen on moving very often, so really only looking for two bases along the route, 4 night each. There seems to be so many options, obviously the island look lovely so could island hop, but my current though is to drive along the mainline coast and stop at Makarska which looks very pretty with access via ferry/boat to the islands for day trips and possibility trip to split from there. I can't then decide if to stay at Zadar itself for the remaining 4 nights, or the smaller town of Sibenik, again as a base to visit the nearby national parks etc. Of course we will need time for beaches and relaxing too!

Any thoughts on my suggested route and the places I have chosen. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Bus travel with kids  (5 Answers)

Hi, very new to VT, but like it so far. Could anyone offer any suggestions...we are traveling to Croatia in July and from what I have read, it seems to be an ok idea to get around by bus rather than renting a car. Normally we would rent a car, but we really only plan on going to some national parks and to also get on the ferry and island hop. BUT, we would rent a car if some of you thought it would be better with 2 three year olds. We are an active family and hike a lot, so the kids are used to walking. My big question is during the peak season, how crowded are the buses and will there be a long wait?

Using bus system with small children in Zadar

Debating on whether or not to rent a car while visiting Zadar in July. We have two three yr olds and were hoping we could explore by using the bus system. Good idea or not? we plan on using ferries to visit other islands too.

One day trip to Dugi otok from Zadar  (1 Answer)

Hi, me and my friend are planing to visit Dugi otok for a one day trip in July, 2014. Is it possible to rent a scooter on Dugi otok island? Would you please provide the contact details (a link, e-mail and/or telephone number) of scooter rentals either in Dugi otok or Zadar?

Would it be feasible to include main sightseeing objects (like Sakarun beach, the village of Bozava, Sali and Telascica Nature Park) in Dugi otok in one day trip travelling by scooter? What would be the recommended times of arrival and departure to/from Zadar (by ferry)?

Many Thanks,

Old Serb tank on display in/near Zadar?  (10 Answers)

Hello all
I was doing a little googling recently and there were a couple of links talking about an old Serb T-55 which was left abandoned on a hill near Zadar. There were no details of it's exact location. There is a cemetery and an abandoned church in the same area. I think it has since been turned into some sort of local monument
Does anyone know the location of this tank?
Cheers everyone!

Areas around Zadar to stay  (8 Answers)

Hi! Just booked flight to Zadar for end of September- first time in Croatia, and have had quick trawl on t'internet to try and find best place to stay.
We're there for 1 week. I've provisionally booked an apartment in the old town for us.

Guessing that we can enjoy restaurants/ bars in squares/ churches/ museums etc, some local character, with chance to walk/ catch local bus to beaches etc.

I haven't been able to find out much about the different areas of Zadar yet, and haven't go around to ordering LP/RG /DK guide yet, so taking the easy option and hoping that fellow VTers will be able to advise!!!

Which other areas of Zadar offer restaurants/ bars/ local character?

Any areas to avoid ie ' modern characterless tourist resorts'

Looking on Booking. Com map, I see that the old town is more expensive than some areas north, on the coast, but there are small pockets that appear to have luxe hotels etc. I'm guessing these are near marinas?

Some of these areas north of old town are on bus route.
So, just weighing up - and getting brain drain ;-)

I've checked out a few VTers Zadar pages, hopefully I've remembered to rate, but I'll be back again over the following weeks, so will be sure to do so!

Any info gratefully received ;-)

bus from Plitvice to Split with possible stop for one night in Zadar  (5 Answers)

I will be going from Zagreb to Plitvice NP in the afternoon of the 19th Aug in time to do one of the 2-3 hour walking trails then have the next day to see more of the park/lakes etc. I was planning on staying that night at Plitvice too but am now thinking I should get the 17:23 bus to Zadar and spend the night there, moving on to Split the next day. Does this sound like a good idea or should I just go from Plitvice NP directly to Split. Wondering if relying on getting a seat on the bus to Zadar from Plitvice is risky and if Zadar will be fun for one night...curious to see if it is 'the best sunset in the world'!

And lastly, if I do stay one night in Zadar, should I be staying in the Old Town? I have a tentative booking at City Center One Apartments - located 200 metres from the Riva Promenade .

Accommodation 4 adults in April 2012

We'll be travelling with my elderly parents and want to stay in Zadar for 4 nights. I'm wanting a good quality apartment/ hotel suite with lovely views. We need no stairs as my mother is not very mobile and may want to spend the day looking at the view instead of wandering the streets. Any ideas anyone?

Bus from Rijeka and to Plitvika  (2 Answers)

We plan to visit Zadar early May after visiting Rijeka.
According to the following site, only two buses run from Rijeka,
07:00-11:35, 13:30-17:50.

Are there any more buses from Rijeka to Zadar?
Should we move from Rijeka to Split and from Split to Zadar?

After visiting Zadar, we will move to Plitvika. The site above shows
only two buses from Zadar in day time, 14:30-16:45, 15:10-17:50.
Are there any more buses from Zadar to Plitvika?
