Self-catering accommodation for 1 or 2 night(s) in July  (1 Answer)

I am trying to plan something a bit different for my birthday this year and am looking for some self-catering accommodation that i can book for 1 or 2 nights over the weekend of the 17th/18th July (either the friday and saturday night, or just the saturday night).

I have a had a look on Rental Cottage websites but they all require a 7 night stay during July - does anyone have any good suggestions?!

Thanks so much in advance!

White horse trail - Where is it??  (3 Answers)

I have been trying to find a route that shows some or all of the White Horses in the Wiltshire and surrounding areas. If anyone can point me in the right direction as to where I could find this info I would be thankful.

I will be driving and would like to tie them in with a day tour of Stonehenge and Avebury.

Avebury area planning  (5 Answers)

Me again. Seeing as I found a bus to both Stonehenge and Avebury I have solved that issue BUT my question is now if anyone knows if the West Kennet Long Barrow is at walking distance from the village itself? Some sites I've found says it is just a 1,5 mile distance but what does this mean in reality? Waling along a busy main road, muddy fields or a proper public footpath from somewhere in Avebury?

If the answer is any of the first two, would it be easy to find a taxi (including calling one when you want to go BACK again in the middle of the countryside!).

Lacock Abbey Proms in July  (2 Answers)

We'd be keen to go to the Proms at Lacock Abbey in July, but does anyone know if it is possible to get there from Central London (and back) by public transport? We'd be happy to stay overnight closer to the venue if there are likely to be shuttle buses to and from the concert.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Childrens' activities, stones and villages  (36 Answers)

We're hopefully off to Wiltshire in spring and therefore I have a few questions. We plan to base ourselves in Salisbury for a few days and we rely on public transport only:

1) What is there to do for children in the area (apart from Longleat which I've seen that we could reach by train/taxi). Any child friendly pubs (preferrably with local ale/cider)?

2) Is Wilton interesting even to those of us not planning to buy a carpet? Are there any other picturesque old villages easy to reach?

3) Is it possible to combine Stonehenge and Avebury in one day by bus, and where would you then spend most time/how would you plan it?

planning a short trip  (1 Answer)

This Spring my wife and I will be in England for a conference. We're planning to rent a car, but we only have about three days. We are hoping to visit Stonehenge, Avebury and Glastonbury and would like suggestions about other sites in the vicinity. I'd like to find out which barrow(s) would be the best to visit. We are also interested in medieval sites, particularly any interesting church frescoes or sculpture. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
