My wife and I are making our first (and probably only) visit to the Finger Lakes area. Since we may never make it back, we want to hit the really good wineries instead of wondering around looking for whichever ones we come across. And we thought the savvy VT members would have good suggestions. What we're looking for particularly is wineries on Seneca Lake. We'll be leaving from Watkins Glen heading toward I-90. We don't care which side we go up but want to only go up one side. Thus, if you suggest more than one (which we appreciate), please make them both on either the east or west side. We are also looking for wineries that would be especially good for "newbies" since we've never done this...in other words, those that won't act like wine snobs but will instead have the patience to show us the drill. Finally, we are looking for wineries that have something more than wine to them such as a georgeous home, building, grounds or view or something else that sets that winery apart from the many others that dot Lake Seneca. Thanks for any and all help.
Years ago we visited the Taylor Winery. I'm not at all sure where in the area it was, but the tour was good (not too fancy), and it's a large company and well known. By noew there may be more interesting or important tours.
