If I have to pick between the two which one should I go? I like history and nature, but I am unlikely to have time for both. Suggestions most welcome.
we are going to stay Gordonville need things to do with in 50 miles
How heavy should I expect traffic to be on the Blue Ridge Parkway in early August? I'm planning to drive the Virginia portion from Front Royal to just the other side of the NC border on about August 6th, unless it would be extremely ill advised.
Thanks in advance.
My wife and I will be in the Richmond area for a week in April. We will have a car. What are some good things to see and do within 2-3 hours of Richmond. Thanks
My family will be travelling south on the Highway 81, and our timing is going to put us in Virginia on Christmas Eve. Can anyone suggest the perfect little Christmas town with a perfect little inn, where we can tuck in for the night and enjoy a Christmas view on the morning of the 25th?
Just wondering since we are going to be moving to that area eventually. Anyone here go to VT? Is it a good school?
Hi! I am road tripping to Tennessee yet again, I take 81S the whole way and usually drive straight through about 16hrs. I am looking to take it a little easier this time and have always dreamed of traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway. I am looking to spend a day on the parkway and stop somewhere along the way to spend the night. Does anyone have any suggestions as to my most efficient route? Suggestions to my start and end points? I am open to switching between the parkway and 81S. What are some sections of the parkway that I should not miss? I want to make some stops along the way to enjoy the scenery. I think I'm definitely interested in stopping to visit Mabry Mill. I am quite the nature enthusiast and explorer. I am also open to the option of driving through the N. Carolina section of the parkway to Gatlinburg as I am familiar with the area and could travel west into Tennessee that way. Also any suggestions where to stay overnight? I will be traveling the first week of April. Thank you so much for any feedback!

Hello, Is there a outlet Mall somewhere around Charlottesvill? or near the university?
My Husband is coming home from deployment for two weeks and we would like to stay a few days in a nice hotel. We are not so much looking for activities, more for a nice view and a place that will spoil us. All inclusive would be nice, but not a must. We are not looking for a B&B as we are wanting a bit more privacy.
Dear all VT'ers!
My girlfriend and I are both 25 and are planning our first trip to USA!
We have decided to travel the mid-states because that it gives a great diversity both in nature, great cities and the local people.
We are flying to New York and plans to spend a couple of days there for 4th july in the end of our vacation.
We have looked at these places: Atlantic city, Phila, Baltimore, Washington, Annapolis, Ocean City, Virginia Beach/Norfolk, Williamsburg, Richmond/virginia Beach, Charlotteville, Shenandoah, Gettysburg, York/Lancaster.
My problem is that I don't know how much time I should spend in Virginia.
Are Richmond, and Charlotteville worth it?
Is Norfolk and Virginia Beach a tourist trap and are there any kind of navy museum in Norfolk?
What about Shenandoah. I've heard great things about it. Is it really that great and should I just spend one day in there?
My Girlfriend and I have a lot of different interests. I like history so Virginia and Washington/Phila should be a great place for me. We also enjoy nature to some extend. We are not hikers at all.
We both enjoy beaches and great food.
Which would be better for a motorcoach tour, Skyline Drive or the Blue Ridge Parkway. I get the impression that fot more dramatic scenic views it would be Skyline Dr. True? Thanks again for your help
Will be bringing a motorcoach tour to Virginia in June of next year. Would like to travel the Virginia portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway. However, the length may present a time problem. If I could only do one, would the northern half or southern half be the best? Group of seniors so sightseeing is probably the more important criteria. Thanks for any suggestions
After the VT Meet in Fredericksburg, we want to head for the Blue Ridge Parkway and go south. Looking at the Virginia map, it looks like the 64 will take us to Waynesboro. Is that a good place to start? Highlights seem to be Mabry Hill at mile 176 and Blue Ridge Music Center at mile 213. Are there economical motels along that stretch? Is there anything else that are must see?
Entering North Carolina at mile 216.9. Highlights seem to be Brinegar cabin at mile 238.5 and Flat Rock at mile 308.3, with views of mountains and valleys. Is the Folk Art Center at mile 382 worth a look? Again are there economical motels along that stretch?
Destination is Asheville and then head home (to the 75 north). Years ago we drove along the southern part of the Ridgeway so don't have to go there again.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
What is a good beach area that I can get a large vehicle into. I don't have a trailer with me so it's just the tractor, is there RV parking at the aquarium?

Hello from N.Ireland,
I will be visiting the States in July 2009 with my wife and kids (15 & 11). Would like to visit the Shenandoah area and rent a Cabin by the river for 3 - 4 nights. My head is spinning with the amount of websites. Can anyone recommend a log/wooden cabin in the river with tub. If it had bikes and kayaks/canoes, that would be great.
Hope you can help
I'm planning a 3 day weekend getaway for my boyfriend and I on the valentine's/presidents day weekend- where's the best area to go to in virginia in february? Also, it would be great if you could give us any suggestions for hotels/B&Bs! Thanks in advance :)
I am going to be traveling from Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, TN to Colonial Williamsburg, Williamsburg, VA during the Christmas 2008 season. Finding gasoline, food, laundry and shopping at truck stops along interstates within Virginia is okay BUT for a portion of the journey I am going to be OFF of interstates, most notably US 220 / 221 / 460 between Roanoke and the western suburbs of Richmond. Does anyone know the locations and contact information for truck stops along this roadway? Thanks.
Hello everyone! I have a question for locals in Fredricksburg. We stayed at a Hampton Inn last year in Fredricksburg on our drive down to SC from Montreal. I am uncertain of which Hampton Inn we stayed at, however it was a quick drive to a whole bunch of restaurants, including a newly opened (2007) chilli's that was across the street from a Walmart. Looked like the side that chilli's was on was a newly developed area.
Any ideas? We believe its the Hampton Inn on Market Street, however aren't 100% and b4 we book it thought i'd ask here.
as our trip to shenandoah is coming closer, i am getting nervous. i am confused which route / highway to take for the most part after we cross the Peace Bridge at Niagara Falls to enter virginia at the right place for visiting shenandoah national park.
1. Google advises I-190 S to I-90 W (for 152 kms) to I-79 S towards pittsburgh (for 159 kms), then I-76E (for 215 kms)to I-70 and then regional routes.
2. Mapquest suggests taking Us 219 for the most part and then regional routes.
3. we could also take I 81 but that would be a long distance to cover.
is there any suggestion?

I am planning to do some day hikes on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia, in May. What segments of Virginia portion of the Trail are the most beautiful ?
Hi and thanks for reading,
I'm considering an east coast roadtrip from Tampa to NYC, and am trying to choose between US 13 along the Delmarva Peninsula or going through Williamsburg, Richmond and Fredericksburg. I haven't been to either area, so I'm not sure what to expect. Mainly I'm looking for natural beauty and quiet over throngs of tourists and cheesy shops.
The plan is to stay just south of Norfolk the night before and DC the next night, so I wouldn't have much time at all.
Thanks in advance,
