We want to travel from Trier on Saturday 10 December to Bernkastel and back to Trier. Would like to be in Bernkastel around 13.00 hrs and leave at about 19.00. We shall be visiting the Christmas Market and hope to see the Advent Calendar at 17.30. I have found a return journey using just one bus (No 333) but that only seems to give us 2 -3 hours there. Other journeys seem to involve train, coach, and bus with various changes from one mode of transport to another. Would appreciate any advice and suggestions. Thank you!
I have limited access at the moment, but there should be a bus from Bernkastel to Wittlich. From there, you should be able to catch a train to Trier.
The website reiseauskunft.bahn.de/ ( in a dozen of languages, chapeau!) normally is very accurate. Unfortunately, traveling from Trier to Bernkastel on dec 10 gives more questions than answers. Bus 333 runs only now and then, and will spoil your holiday time. Best guess is train return from Trier HBf to Wittlich HBf, and there should be a connecting bus to Bernkastel ( more precise, to Kues at the opposite river bank ) The mentioned website states that trains and buses don't run daily, but forgot to mention when... Maybe consider a taxi from Wittlich to Bernkastel.
First take the train to Wittlich, as suggested above.
The VRT journeyplanner will give you Wittlich>Bernkastel bus information for 10th:
Buses go to Kues and from there you walk across the river (about 6 minutes' walk) to Bernkastel.
From: Trier Hbf
To: Kues Forum, Bernkastel-Kues
Kues Forum is the main bus stop in Bernkastel-Kues. Just across the river Mosel from Bernkastel.
