What's the overrunness like in the Brenta / Adamello area compared to the Tre Cime / Cortina d'Ampezzo area?
I'd hope it to be a little bit better but it's the one area I've never been to.

Gebirgswandern für Kniegschädigte??  (9 Answers)

Travelling with 2 teenagers and a toddler  (2 Answers)

We will be travelling to Bressanone (Brixen) and then Vipiteno with 2 teenagers and a toddler. I would love to find a very easy and short walk to a waterfall. I would be willing to go anywhere in Alto Adige if it is worth it. Any thoughts?

Weather Advice

I am planning to travel to Trentino Alto Adige in April 2012 (5th - 8th). We will be in a hotel in Terlago and plan to do some day trips maybe to Innsbruck and Lago the Garda and other closeby locations. What weather should we expect at that time of the year? I am coming from a totally diffent climate (Malta) so am not very used to snow etc so would like to be well prepared beforehand. We intend to rent a car... Would snow chains be required?

which choise in Trentino?  (14 Answers)

Hello
i'm planning to go to the fabolous Trentino-Alto adige this winter. I went there sometimes but more or less ever in the same places: San Martino di Castrozza and Bolzano. This time i decided to change and discover a new place where to stay but i really don't know where to go.
I'd like a place on (or not far) from the Dolomiti and possibly not a "fashion" place as San Martino can be. Any suggestion?
I'd like also to know a good hotel (or residence) that has spa and/or sauna.
I not care very much about skying..i'm more for using the "ciaspole"(that are used for makeing trekking on the snow during the winter..but i don't know how to transalte it in englishLOL)
Thank you

Help wih my travel itinerary

I will be going on holiday with my wife and 12 year old son in July/August and will be arriving in Treviso airport late evening. We will be spending the night in Treviso and on our second day we will be visiting Venice for the day. We will again spend the night in Treviso and On our third day we will leave to go to the Dolomites by car. What places do you suggest I should visit and how many nights should I spend in each place. I really would like to see places with beautiful scenery. As I will be flying again from Treviso, on my way back I would like to take a different route and perhaps visit Soave or Bassano Del Grappa and spend my last night there. I am open for any suggestions which I will greatly appreciate.

Best Regards

Stephen

Favorite hikes in the Dolomites, based in Pufels (near Ortisei)  (3 Answers)

Hi all

I was hoping to get some input on some hikes you've enjoyed in the above areas. Nothing too strenuous, we aren't bringing any equipment - just want to see some pretty sights up close.

We are staying at the Uhrerhof Deur for 2-3 nights and will have a car. Any suggestions please?

Thank you!

bus from Bolzano to Castelrotto  (2 Answers)

where is the bus station and how often do they run?
I have been on two websites for public transportation and when I put in my dates of Sept 18 and Sept 21 for busses between these two places I get a message that the dates fall outside of the range (only untill Sept 9th). I hope that there are busses after 9th Sept!! I arrive by train to Bolzano station and need to get to Castelrotto.

Alto Adige, Valle D'Aosta or Insbruck  (9 Answers)

I am planning a road trip to Central & Northern Italy. I will be staying 4 nights at Rome, 4 nights Fiesole in Toscana & 6 nights in Garda.

I would like to spend another 4 nights somewhere in an alpine town. I am looking for a town that has his own custom & food. At first I was thinking about Valle D'Aosta but then I was suggested to visit Alto Adige since it seems less modern and has older customs.
Now I am also considering Insbruck in Austria.

Can anyone please help?

Regards,
Ronnie

Bus transport  (1 Answer)

We will be spending 2 weeks at Malesine, Lake Garda, in the summer and would like to take a day trip by bus to Trento. I think we need to get a bus from Malcesine to Torbole then change to another bus. We are planning to drive from Trento to Munich, over 250km! Have you any ideas of interesting places to stop en route. We have young kids who will go crazy with such a long drive! Innsbruck is an option, however we are planning to visit there earlier in our trip. Any ideas would be hugely appreciated.

cool summer escape  (2 Answers)

I'm looking (at the last minute) for somewhere to escape the August heat. I know it can get hot in the mountains but I'm coming from Roma so anywhere coolish with cool nights would be nice.
I have no car, so it needs to be relatively easy to get to. How high and cool is Castelrotto? What about Dobbiaco, Selva and Vipiteno?

calling Dolomites experts please  (1 Answer)

We are looking for recommendations for good quality B&B type accommodation in or around Ortisei and Selva. We will have a car. Probably thinking about 4 nights in each place. Our big requirement is a balcony and a wonderful view! There are heaps of them on the net but personal recommendations are always so much better. We are 2 couples and the males are planning some big hard treks and we ladies are planning lots of cable car rides for walks in alpine meadows and lakes and restaurants!
Any information about any aspect would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Sally

Val Gardena in late June  (5 Answers)

Hello,

I will probably be somewhere around Lake Garda in June and I've been thinking of making a short side trip (2-3 full days) to Val Gardena in the end of June for some light day hiking and/or mountain biking.

What kind of weather one can generally expect in late June in Val Gardena? I'm mostly worried about rain and fog, cool weather is not a problem as such. Bolzano seems to be quite nice in late June, but Val Gardena is at a much higher altitude.

I do understand that in the mountains weather can change very rapidly and clear blue skies are never guaranteed, but some kind of information would be greatly appreciated.

Basically I'm pondering whether Val Gardena in late June is worth it - I can always do Val Gardena later at a better time (late July, August?) and reserve more time too.

Driving Difficulty from Bolzano to Cortina  (3 Answers)

We have planned to drive from Bolzano to Cortina in two days, staying overnight in Cortina. We saw that the drive on the Val di Fassa and a return drive via the Val Gardena looked beautiful. We are driving in late May, and thought we would stop occasionally along the way to enjoy the views, have lunch, etc..
Our Cortina hotel tells us these roads are very difficult and each way is over 4.5 hours; they recommend the Val Pusteria route (going up to Bressanone and to Dobbiaco), sayng it is much faster and still beautiful. We have not heard of that Valley.

Florence to Cortina to Venice  (1 Answer)

We are very ambitious and tight for time. We would like to
leave Florence on Wednesday April 26th early morning, drive
to Lake Garda, up to Cortina, down to Verona and be in Venice
no later than mid afternoon on April 28th which would give
us 2 nights, one and a half (almost) days in Venice before we
have to fly back. Suggestions? Routes? Information? Thank
you all.

Riva Del Garda+Weather+Ideas  (3 Answers)

Hi my husband and I are going to Riva Del Garda in October. Does anybody know what the weather is likely to be - warm wind or cold and 'autumnal'? Shall we take plenty of t-shirts or warm jackets?
Also, it will be his 40th birthday while we are there. Can anybody suggest a nice place for us to celebrate - restaurant/ boat trips?? I am open to suggestions - want to make it a surprise for him.
Thanks
