Please can you all help. I'm 50 this year and am going to Koh Samui for a week beginning of August. I don't want to be in the thick of all the noisy action but in walking distance to restaurants etc. It all seems very expensive to stay in the hotels however it is a special occasion. Some people have recommended Fisherman's Village, Choeng Mon or tongai Bay and others Chaweng (but I've heard that's full of youngsters!).
I look forward to your suggestions and help.
Ko Samui is expensive because limited of accommodation, and is a home to luxury resorts, but if check around you also find affordable price, but then, you're far away from the beachside
The most popular is Chaweng and Lamai along the east coast. Indeed Chaweng is more a back packers place
How about Lamai Beach? is very quiet area comparing to Chaweng
Thank you [VT member 10daf0] for this. Think I'll steer clear of Chaweng!
Quite correct stay away from Chaweng, it is Samui's Patong!!!! Lamai is far better, less crowded, as much beach. Bo Phut and Mae Nam towards the north coast are nice places although without as many restos and hotels a s Lamai. The west coast is pretty much reserved for the resort type of place and you'll need a vehicle to get to a restaurant outside of a hotel. South-East and along the South coast is much the same as the West but has some nice secluded beaches (Near the Butterfly farm) but once again you'll need some form of transport.
Okay, it's up to you! you're asking some opinions, so we thought we could suggest Lamai to you
I can suggest you to book villa online - [original link] . These guys can pick up a villa at any taste and budget for you! We used their services for two times already. Each time we remained very pleased with the accomodation provided.
