a VirtualTourist member from Strasbourg
Dear all, we are spending a week safari in Tanzania in August, which we are arranging from France. Our local tour operator for the safari would be a company called "Matembezi". Any feedback or comments on this company, its reputation, your experiences etc would be welcome! Thank you!
Good morning and welcome to VT......d:o)
Matembezi is a a legitimate and quite good at what they do. They are adapt at luxury safaris. They are a member in good standing with TATO (Tanzania Association of Tour Operators). Always make sure whoever you choose, that they are members of TATO. Matembezi is not only a member but they are listed on TATO as being "hot".
That is a good sign indeed. They also operate their own supply stores and have a fully staffed mechanical department so they take care of their own vehicles. (Very important).
Matembezi is a big player (for a mid size family company), in consevation, and actively spread what is called "The Arusha Declaration", which was made by the "Father of the Country", Tanzania's controversial, but influential first president, Julius Nyerere. It is displayed on their website, under "About Us".
Overall I think you made a fine choice.
(Having been a tour director for decades and having led numerous safaris from the U.S. to all the African safari countries, I have a lot of experience in reviewing and determining quality in local operators around rhe globe.).
Thanks very much for your answer, and for the useful links, which I will check out.
Good to hear from someone with your experience!
You are quite welcome. Have a great journey......d:o)
