Going on holiday

So, Hi to all from the USA. Well then I'll be going on holiday here soon in June to Tahiti and well be in the city of Papeete for a week. I'm new to this place and need any info of what to do things to see and clubs, fishing, food and more. I need a heads up on what to look out for and places to avoid. If anyone can gave me a suggestion that would be great. Thanks for your time and I'm looking forward on my trip there and hope I do have a grate time.

Tahiti is not a cheap destination, and not knowing your budget, I will simply tell you what I know. My trips/tours were all ivolving top properties, so I will include those.

The neighboring islands of Moorea and Bora Bora are the real paradise. However, the main island and Papeete is also nice, - if you know where and what you are doing, but a couple of days in and around Papeete and the rest on Moreea, or better, Bora Bora.

It is pretty hard to go wrong at any of the five star properties in Bora Bora. Having fronted several five star tours to Tahiti in general and Bora Bora in particular, - I usually stayed at the Sofitel Bora Bora. Exquisite!. Both the Four Seasons and the St Regis are great as well. Have not stayed at either, but have done the VIP tour of both.

Some consider the Intercontinental better than the Four Seasons, but we are really splitting hairs here (as a 5 star Tour Director, both were eager to show me the properties). Obviously I saw nothing that could be considered detrimental, but overall I cannot see that you can go wrong in either.

Check with TripAdvisor for reviews of each property, - it may give you a better idea of which one to pick. Here is the TripAdvisor page for the Sofitel:

You can check TripAdvisor for reviews on any hotels in Tahiti as well.

Here is a site that shows you all the five star properties. Consider that some are actually four, and four and a half stars. This is basically based on the fact that they are not in a traditional hotel as such. However they have all the services of a five star property. Good luck, and enjoy this beautiful island. Hope this helps in your decision.....d:o)

Here is some additional information on both.

Perhaps the listing of the five star properties is not in your budget but I speak of what I know. There is of course less costly hotels in the islands as well. However not knowing your budget, - I would highly recommend Marlon Brando's island hideaway, Tetiaroa, about 45 miles north of Papeete. You simply cannot go wrong there.

Good luck.

My husband and I are returning to Tahiti for the 2nd time next month, so I can give you more of an update then. But when we were there 5 years ago, we really enjoyed the island of Moorea - you can reach it by ferry from Papeete. It is less populated than the main island and we just loved it.

If you do stay in an upscale hotel, I'd recommend splurging for at least a couple of nights in an overwater bungalow. We love to snorkel, and the ability to step off your own balcony and snorkel several times a day was priceless.
