The cruise will arrive in Tartous and stay 2 days. We have choice for shore excursion on the same day for Palmyra and Aleppo. Each for a full day tour. I do not know what to choose between Palmyra and Aleppo. I prefer Palmyra from the tour programme read. Do I make a good choice ?
Another day is Damascas on a full day tour.
Tough choice, but i would opt for Aleppo.
May I have your opinion why you would opt for Aleppo ? I don't know both places. Thank you.
Aleppo is a city that on top of having great sites also is a place that is very vibrant.
Palmyra should be the choice though if you have specific interest in ancient sites.
Palmyra is fabulous! It is a huge site with plenty of Ancient Roman architecture which is now really popular with tourists. The tombs are fascinating as is the Temple of Bel.
Aleppo ---oh, I loved Aleppo with the impressive citadel and the blend of old and new...
Damascus, though... the oldest contonuously inhabited city in the world... the Street called Straight, the markets, the Roman architectural remains...
A tough choice!
How long will you have in each place?
Do you want to spend ages on a coach?
Will you return to Syria?
I've plenty of photos and info on my travel pages ---have a look!
Which cruise company are you travelling with?
All in all, Aleppo and Damascus are easy to fly to for a long weekend from Europe, so I'd choose Palmyra for your situation.
Really, you should consider a week or ten days on a visit to Syria and Lebanon.
Thank you for all replies. I only have 2 days in Syria on a cruise with NDS Voyages so one day Damascas and the other day Palmyra. I wish I had more days to visit more places.
The is the perfect choice you have made
Aleppo is similar to Damascus in many ways.
Palmyra and Damascus are the highlights of Syria visit.
If you start early in the day from tartous you could easily include Krak. The mother and the best of all castles in the world.and go on to Palmyra.A long day of 6 hours driving and six hours sightseeing.
i have done that trip before.A memorable day
Don,t miss night in Palmyra , the view of ruins is great .
have good times
Please advise the situation in Syria now. Heard only Daara, what about Damascas and Palmyra where I will visit in April.
So far it´s only in Daraa in the south, but it´s hard to say what will happen there in the coming weeks.
