I will be arriving to Zurich and taking the train to Lucerne after arrival. I will be in Lucerne for about a week, including day trips. From Lucerne I will be travelling to Colmar in France.
My question is - if I buy an 8 day Swiss Pass does it include the travel from Zurich to Lucerne, all the day trips from Lucerne and the Swiss train travel part on the way to Colmar (till Basel)? I'm just asking because i understand that not all routes are included in the pass and I don't want any surprises.
Yes, it should cover trains, buses, and boats in the area, as well as entrance to many museums and 50% discounts on many mountain lifts. It also gives you a 25% discount on the Jungfraubahn. Exact validity maps are available on the Swiss Travel System website, swisstravelsystem.com.
Is it possible to buy the Swiss travel pass at the airport in Zurich or should I buy it online before my arrival?
Yes, you can buy Swiss Travel Passes at the SBB Reisezentrum at Zurich Airport if you wish. It is located above the train platforms.
Just do the maths - [original link] for regular ticket prices.
Don't buy a pass unless it makes financial sense.
