Switzerland

Packing for Switzerland

Hi
We are a couple travelling to Switzerland in the last week of September. We are from India. I am confused about what type of clothing I should pack. What type of outerwear is suggested to wear while visiting Mt.titlis and Jungfraujoch

If you plan to visit high mountains, you should of course pack warm clothing such as a sweater and coat. Also bring rain gear and comfortable walking shoes. If you plan to do any hiking, then hiking boots might also be a good idea. If you do not own such items, it should be possible to buy them when you arrive in Switzerland.

We visited in June, the 21st to be exact and were in Zermatt which is Alpine.
During the day the temperature was quite warm but it quickly dropped off to quite cold (for us) after sun set.
We come from the tropics so although we saw plenty of people wearing sweater we required a jacket over our sweaters to keep warm.

As you are from India you will find temperatures feel chillier than they might to those of us more used to temperate climates.

Pack clothes you can layer and a warm, waterproof or water-resistant coat or jacket. Several thin layers are always warmer than one thick layer e.g. sleeveless t-shirt under shirt under woollen sweater or sweatshirt. You can take off or add layers as necessary. And you'll need a wind-and-water resistant jacket or coat, possibly one which is padded rather than just a thin 'shell'.

You might also want to pack a hat and scarf.

Sensible, comfortable shoes or boots for walking are essential of course.

@ Leics - it was kind of humorous, being from Tropical South Florida even when we were in Paris, when locals were obviously reveling at the warm June/July temperatures we were having to wear long sleeved or even light jackets in the evening!

I know just what you mean, Homer. It's the same for me when I've visited Italy or Spain or Jordan in the winter months. I'm often wandering around in a t-shirt when locals are wearing sweaters and leather jackets and scarves! :-)
