Guest houses in Kolkata?

Hey all,

Will be arriving in Kolkata October 26, yes just after the festival, and wondering about some good guesthouses or B & B's to stay at? Probably will be there for a few days before heading to Darjeeling. Was wondering also about Bodh Gaya if it's on the way to Darjeeling. Might like to stop there for a day to see it. Any suggestions?

For Bodh Gaya, you will have to take a flight to Patna and then a road journey or take a train from Delhi towards Allahabad, Varanasi, Mughal Sarai, Dehri, Aurangabad (all in Bihar state) and then on to your destination. It is well before the state of West Bengal where you will find Darjeeling.

I stayed at Hotel Paragon in Kolkata:

but just look around Sudder Street, there are plenty of guesthouses to choose from, most with reasonable backpacker prices.

If you can get a booking at the Fairlawn Hotel- grab it.
It is a Kolkata icon- really eccentric and lots of fun.
Bodhi Tree Guesthouse was......interesting.
Agree Sudder Street area is best for accommodation - very popular with backpackers and other travellers- also easy to get to attractions in Kolkata.
