what local customs and traditions does bath have
My wife and I have 2 weeks in a rental car going round the south west starting and finishing in Southampton in July before joining the Celebrity Eclipse cruise into the Baltic.
We would like any tips on routes to take and recomended B&Bs / Farm Stays along the way. We want to avoid motorways as much as posible.
We realize July is peak season so if you know of places that wont be too crowded would be great!
I am planning to do research at the Somerset Records Office in Taunton during the last two weeks of July. Is it practical to stay in the area without renting a car? Or is it practical to take a train every day from Bath, Bristol of Weston-Super-Mare? Thanks for all suggestions.
Considering staying at the Fox & Goose prior to flight from Bristol Airport. Last 2 hotels we stayed at have been characterless - a letdown after Wales & Cornwall. It'd be nice to stay somewhere close (we'll be driving a rental car) and with a nice pub/food. Carpenters Arms looks fabulous, but too expensive for a short night, and too far? Thanks.
Thanks for you previous replies - now I'm in full planning mode :) I've found bus 376 from Bristol to interesting places but my question is if it is possible to combine Wells and Cheddar in one day (and by public transport) or are they worth a whole day each? If not, should I sacrifice one of them in favour of Glastonbury? I just don't have time for more THIS time around...
Is there a First bus pass that would offer value for money daytrips or more? (this I might find on their site...haven't ventured that far yet).
Is Wookey Hole impressive or just a tourist trap compared to the already touristy Cheddar gorge?
Feel free to recommend child friendly pubs with good cider/ale in these places :)
i have heard that brean and burnham on sea has an influx of asylum seekers. Has anyon seen evidence of this?
Hello to all,
I am going to work as a volunter in Somerset, Bridgwater. And i dont know much about the town. If anyone live or know about the town please message me. thanks.
I will be travelling from London to Devon with my dog this summer, and I'm looking for advice on good places to stop for a 1/2 hour or so along the A303 -- probably somewhere around the Ilminster area. Are there public footpaths / commons where I can let her off the lead without bumping into sheep? She's never seen a sheep before and I'm not too optimistic about what might happen....
Thanks for any comments.
