Has anyone been to Somaliland (Hargeisa, etc) recently? Would the place, or at least Hargeisa and Berbara feel safe enough to visit on one's own? Are the borders with Ethiopia and Djibouti open currently? What are prices like - cheap hotels, public transport?

Yip, I have visited Somaliland in the meantime, crossing overland from Ethiopia and out into Djibouti. It was fascinating - and I saw no other foreigners while in the country. It was also quite cheap, though a bit pricier than Ethiopia.
