verona to sirmione

We are arriving in Verona by train from Rome and need to get to Sirmione. I have read that you can get a train from Verona to Desenzano del Garde and then bus or taxi to Sirmione. My question is, is it very difficult to locate the train to Desenzano, does it leave from the main station that the Rome train comes into or from another station entirely? The hotel is quoting 80 euro for a pick up. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

The train from Verona to Desenzano is easy, it leaves from the same station. 80 is rather high, if you are used to public transport. These are the lines going to Sirmione:

It will not be in the least difficult to locate the train. You will find a large departure board in the station entrance, telling you train times, intermediate stations and platform and each platform also has electronic signs telling you which train is standing there (or expected) with the same info.

Your train from Rome will arrive at Verona Porto Nuova station and that is where the Desenzano train leaves from. Train times, details and fares in English on the official Italian railway website:

You have the bus info Desenzano>Sirmione above. You may feel you cannot cope with your bags on the bus so you could take a taxi from outside the station...which won't cost you anywhere near 80 euro, of course.

You could also take the train to Peschiera del Garda then same bus quoted above to Sirmione, its a slightly shorter jorney time, just deends on connection times really.
