Public transport for 7:15am flight (friday, T3)

After a backpacking holiday through Malaysia I'll depart Singapore on a Friday morning 7:15am by plane from Terminal 3 (Oman Air). I'll be staying for 3 nights only in Singapore so a Taxi for departure would mean considerable cost per day.

Is it safe to take public transport at this time of the day (most busses/tram starts around 5-something)?

The most convenient locations both for departure and logistics in general are are Chinatown and Little India, right?

Singapore is one of the safest cities in the world. Also Taxi rates are completely regulated and cheaper then many major cities.

Chinatown and Little India have good metro connections, just look at the SMRT website for journey times/duration.

Have a great time,

Taxi would cost around $Sing20 - 25. Metro is excellent and much cheaper - that journey around $S2.50. As you are in Sing for 3 days, consider a Singapore Tourist Pass for bus/metro - cost is $20 for 3 days (plus refundable $10)

The most convenient accomodation towards the airport is along the east-west line (the green line)... look for accommodation near Cityhall or Bugis mrt station... mrt starts around 5:30am.. though if you take mrt from city you are likely only able to board around 6am.. which means you will arrive at the airport around 6:30am at the earliest... prolly too late to catch your flight considering you still have to do all the formalities.. checking-in, etc.. there is bus no. 36 from the city to the airport but the first bus is around 6am.. so taxi looks like your best option.. do note taxi cost 25% more during morning peak hours.. expect to pay around $20-$25 as mentioned above..

You may want to consider staying the last night at transit hotel at the airport, but its within the transit area so you must have a boarding pass before you can enter the transit area.. see if you can print your boarding pass the day before.. some travellers just crashed for free at the transit area.. plenty of nice sofa seats around... or for a small fee at some napping lounge...

The MRT is excellent, and very easy, especially if you get a tourist pass. If you are thinking about hotel locations, aim to get one as close to a station as you can - the climate in Singapore isn't great for walking around in as it is so humid.

Thanks to all of you, foremost walkietalkie2012!

I somewhat wanted to confirm that bus/mrt is a no-option. I read about a night surcharge of 50%, are S$20-25 really realistic?

I really might just try to sleep at the airport arrival just before midnight should be okay. Shower prices (Harilela) seemed to have risen by 100% in 2 years to S$16. Can you recommend anything cheaper than that?

Singapore is one of the safest countries in the world so i would use the public transport and not worry at all.

There is 50% surcharge if you take taxi between midnight and 6am. After that up to 9:30am it is 25%.

If you need to shower the cheaper alternative is to go to public pool shower room. The nearest to airport is Bedok. Pool entry is less than $2. It closes at 9:30pm.
