Rethinking the Oceans-Towards the Blue Economy  (1 Answer)

Hallo there friends,

The above book was recently launched in Seychelles, written by President James Michel. Can you kindly suggest a bookstore in Seychelles where I can source a copy and get it couriered to Namibia. I can get a copy from the publishers - Paragon-house in the US - but the shipping is more expensive then the book itself. I will appreciate your advise.

What should be budget to have an 8 night vecation on Seychlles?  (1 Answer)

Hello, im am planing a trip to Seychelles, with my girlfriend, for 9 days. I know this is not cheap and we are not thinking about backpacking, but we are not interested of spending too much money either. We have looked from internet and we have put up a budget, what to spend on the islands. 1. Hotels- we are looking to have nice cosy hotel/hostel for 900€ for 7 nights and two people. 2.Food and drinks- about 500€ for two people, its about 70 € a day. Transportation between the islands, taxi, car rental, bike rental, ferry tickets bout 250€. We wont go there for party or shopping. We are looking afordable trip with reasonable prices. Who has been there, what to you think of our estimated budget? What other cost i have forgotten? The plan is to be three nights in Victoria(Mahe), then take a ferry to Parslin, and to spend three nights there, then take a ferry and one day trip to La Digue island! So the budget is about 2000€ to spend on the islands?

All your comments about the budget or the trip itself we are planning is very thankful, Roger

Where to stay? What to do?  (2 Answers)

We are a 47/45 year old couple. We are planning a few days trip to Seychelles around October. are 3 to 4 full days ok?

What is a decent place to stay (not too expensive)? Food? (we are vegetarians, comfortable with fruits, Pizzas or sandwiches etc. also).

What do we do? Really not into a lot of water sports etc. but would want to stay not too far from beach or happening places.

How do we tour the islands? Do we need to hire car/scooter? Nightlife??

Thanks friends for your help.

Staying only on Mahe, is it enough?  (4 Answers)

Hello, we are going to Seychelles next Monday for a week, and we booked a hotel in Beau Vallon (the Berjaya).

I wanted to know if staying on Mahe will be enough. We wanted to see the giant turtles, the beaches and some markets.

The flight/ferry to Praslin is very expensive, but does it worth it?

And maybe you familiar with this hotel and can give me some tips?

Thanks a lot,

Sail vacation in Seychelles this August (at a discount)  (1 Answer)

Hi folks,

I'm organizing a sailing vacation trip in Seychelles in mid-August and am looking for people to join. It'll be on a big luxury catamaran/sailboat for 1 week cruising around the islands, snorkeling and adventuring. I was able to get a steep discount on the charter through business contacts - price would be roughly $600 per person when we split the cost.

I have 3 people so far and we're looking for about 4 more people to join. This would be a photo-centric trip, so if you're interested in photography, all the better!

Please message me if you're interested, and I will send more details ASAP.

Mahe or Praslin?  (4 Answers)

We have made flight reservations for the period February 20th 2015 till March 2nd 2015, and have booked a guesthouse and will stay the second half of the vacation on La Digue.

For the first half our originally plan was to stay at Praslin/Cote D`Or, with first night in Victoria since we will miss the last boat to Praslin (see other post regarding this). But we have now done some more searching and cannot decide if we should choose Mahe or Praslin.

We are into nice beaches and maybe an excursion one day, and we want to choose two islands/beaches which differ from each other. Since La Digue will be quite quiet we want to spend the other part of the vacation on a livelier beach. We have been looking at Praslin/ Cote D`Or-Anse Volbert as well as Mahe/Beau Vallon, but we do NOT it to be as Koh Samui in Thailand. Also, we do not want to rent a car, and we want to stay in a gusthouse as well on Praslin/Mahe.

Which island is the nicest of Mahe and Praslin? It is so hard to get the answer from googling. On Praslin I think we want to do excursions to Curieuse Island and Valee de Mai. Or should we go for Mahe and Moyenne Island? So many choices…….

Hotel in Victoria  (5 Answers)

My daughter and I will spend our holiday at Praslin and La Digue, but our plane will arrive to late at Mahe (15.30) to catch the last boat to Praslin the same day. Our plan is to stay in central Victoria; exploring the city during the afternoon and evening and head to Praslin with the first boat next day.

We do not want to spend to much money for sleeping only in Victoria, does anyone have an ok hotel/guesthouse to recommend in central Victoria? It is not that easy to find something using, etc in central Victoria.

What would you do?  (3 Answers)

The wife and I both have one foot in the grave but we are determined to visit the Seychelles some time next year possibly for our 40th anniversary in February but is that a good month to go?.
Although we are not exactly Olympic class swimmers we do enjoy snorkelling which is probably the main reason we would undertake such a long haul flight
How does the marine life and coral reefs on the Seychelles compare with say the Maldives or Egypt?
We would love to spend four weeks island hopping, looking for beautiful isolated beaches but which one would you recommend to spend more time on?
Would it be possible to arrange transfers and accommodation once we arrive at Mahe or would it be advisable to book everything in advance?
We did a similar thing in Thailand, booking the first two nights in Phuket then travelling light and stopping on different islands taking a chance on finding somewhere to stay which worked out pretty well.
I think we only slept rough on the beach one night which wasn’t ideal but we survived.
Thanks for any reply’s in advance

Budget accomodation  (3 Answers)

Even though Seychelles are never going to be cheap .. some accomodations are cheaper than others..
Any suggestion for budgets - single rooms -- on the three main islands -- combo-island-hopping deal would be great.

safety for solo female traveller  (3 Answers)

My next backpacking might include Mauritius and Rodrigues.. nature and wild life, hiking, biking, snorkling, kayaking if possible.
Anything to be careful about except for the "normal" stuff ... back to accomodation before dark, don´t display your "gold"
Good advice to keep the budget (not really possible) but sort of keeping the budget? Want to stay 4 -5 days on the three main islands and make daytours from there... Unfortunately accomodation has to be booked in advance so it will be "really backpacking"

Food & Drinks

Hello fellow travelers.

Can I please have some advice on how much food and drinks cost in Seychelles? How much does a local beer cost? Cocktail? Meal in a local restaurant (curry, seafood, pizza, etc..)? What are prices in the supermarkets (beer, bottled water, coke, snacks, fruit, etc).

Are prices similar in Mahe and La Digue?

We are thinking to spend 5 nights in La Digue and 3 nights in Mahe. Will rent a car for 1 or 2 days in Mahe. Hotels will be booked and paid, so trying to budget for daily expenses now. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Should we rent a car when flying into Mahe?  (2 Answers)

We are wondering if we should rent a car when we fly into Mahe. We will be staying at a self catering cottage, so we will need groceries, etc. We were thinking of using public transportation, but don't want to feel stranded. I was reading reviews of the local buses and they seem to be on their own schedule. Walking also looked like it could be dangerous as one reviewer said the roads were narrow and cars and trucks came by quite fast. Its hard to get an idea of scale, of the size of the area. thanks

SIM card and burner phone needed in Seychelles  (2 Answers)

I will be arriving at 7am in Seychelles. I think the cell phone shops will be closed. Is there a place on the island, besides the airport to 1) buy a burner phone and "package", 2) buy additional minutes. I need to call the US and be able to make calls on the island while I am there. What should the average cost be for the phone and package? what is reasonable for the SIM and SIMpackage? $/call to the US. Do they have unlimited text/call for a limited amount of time?
