I want to know the cheapest/easiest way to travel from Alghero Airport to Olbia, or more specifically Golfo Aranci, other than hiring a car!
My flight lands at 17.20 and so far i have only found 1 possible train, with 2 changes.
If you have any ideas or advice, please let me know!
I will be visiting Sardinia in September with a group of friends,we are staying in Cala Gonone.
I would love to find some live music whilst we are there - particularly blues and rock. Do you know of any live music venues in Sardinia? Ideally close to Cala Gononne, but I know thats asking a lot! We are bringing motorbikes so would be happy to travel anywhere on the island.
Thanks for your help.
If you find yourself in the North Eastern (Gallura) part of Sardegna and fancy a book swap. Drop me a line. I prefer books that are around the 300+ page mark, although Im not too fussy. I can come and meet you if you are not in my town: Trinita D'Agultu.
Please give me some advice:
me and my friend are going to be in Sardegna between the 9th and 16th Sept. We were originally thinking of hiking with our bags on our backs and sleeping wherever we happen to arrive, but .. I just weighed the bag, with all the camping stuff in it, and it ain't for me :). Would you know of a cheap "base" that we could find ANYWHERE on the Eastern Side of Sardegna, where we can take beautiful coastal walks from? Ideally it'd be a place, from which trails go in different directions - a place, which allows much hiking and also easy ways to return back to the camp base and which also offers opportunities for enjoying the sea (swimming, snorkeling). The place itself can be just about anything: a simple campsite bungalow or even just a spot for raising our tent is fine, as long as we can leave our stuff there and find it upon return. We will have sleeping bags and mats to sleep on. Do you have any ideas?
Me and my wife are planning a weeks trip to Sardegna end-of August 08! We would like to relax at the beach, do some diving and do some daily trips with a rental car to different locations. Any recommendation where to go on Sardegna?
For accomondation, we would like to stay in a small "Finca", appartment or even a very small and private hotel.
Thx in advance for your replies
My girlfriend and i are heading to sardinia in the second week of august (i know - not the best time!)
We are staying in cala gonone for a week, and are wondering whether to hire a car. From what I have read most of the good beaches you have to travel to, so that is why we would get one. However, there is no hotel parking, should I worry about finding parking that time of year or the safety of the hirecar? Also, apparently you actually travel by boat to most beaches form Cala Gonone so maybe that is a better option?
Any advice would be much appreciated... :)
In September my wife and I are flying into Olbia (Sardinia) for a five night stay on the island. I am thinking of hiring a car and taking a bit of a tour. We like quaint villages, great food, interesting architecture and gentle walks. I would be grateful for any suggestions? Best wishes, Phil
Kann mir jemand sagen ob es im Gebiet Paduledda , Isola Rossa ein Internet Cafe gibt? Vielen Dank!
Hello, we are staying in Porto Torres does anyone know if there are any internet cafes there? Many Thanks
Hi all! My husband and I- both in our early thirties, are flying into Alghero (thanks to Ryanair!) on 21st July for 12 nights. We really need the first few days to be chill out & recharge the batteries!- nice hotel, near beach, nice town, quietish area if possible! Any suggestions gratefully received!!
We can rent a car after this and would be grateful for ideas for bases from which to see the island- perhaps a total of 3 hotels (4 nights each), cost not really an issue. We were thinking of popping over to Corsica for a few days-but is one week enough to chill out & see a little of Sardinia? Any advice would be great, Thanks ! L.
could anybody advise on the best route to drive from Alghero to Dorgali???
we will be driving there next week and would like to chose the most scenic route via inland, but also not too confusing, as we do not know the island.
Any idea how long would this journey take (we only hired a little car), we are in no hurry, want to enjoy the journey...
also, coming back to Alghero we were thinking of driving along the coast, is this easy? has anybody tried it? how long would this take us? again, in no hurry, we want to see the best of Sardinia...
thanks so much, any advice would be much appreciated!!!
Hi, we will be 4 girls who would like to travel and have 1 week vacation in Sardenia. However noone knows anything about Sardenia. we want to decide where to go and stay. Can anyone suggest where to visit, Calgiari or Alghero? And where to accomodate? It does not need to be budget hotel
Thanks in advance
We're trying to book a family holiday for 6 people (of 3 generations) to Sardinia in August this year, and having never visited the island before we're having difficulty deciding where to stay for the best. We're looking at Cannigione as well as Isola Rossa. If anybody has any advice, reviews or information about the resorts it would be very useful. We've searched the web, but its not easy to find personal opinions of the resort destinations. We'd hope to hire a car to explore the island, but also want somewhere with enough character and things to see and do as a base.
We've looked possibly at the Villa Pineta, as well as Residence Hotel Riva Azzura in Cannigione, and the Hotel Relax Torreruja at Isola Rossa. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance x
we will be travelling in Sardinia in May and wondering if somebody knows the Nuoro/Arbatax area. I have found nice B&B which is called Fico D'India (thanks Zeus Zeus) and we were wondering if its worth to drive there from Alghero through inland. We want to see the 'real Sardinia' along the way and hoping to find amazing beaches around Nuoro?
Please help if you have any info.

My girlfriend and I want to travel to Sardegna in october. How's the weather in october ? Is it warm enough to swim in the sea ? Are there nice spots to dive or snorkel ? Tips are always welcome !
We're also like to spend some time in the nature and have some contact with local people. Can anybody recommend (an) specific area(s) ?
Thank you very much !!
I'm planning to hire a car and drive around untill I get tired and than only look for a place to stay over night, will it work this way or should I always book a place in advance?
And another question... are the touristic sites open all year round or only in the high season?
Will appreciate any tips :]
We are seasoned Italy travelers but never to Sardinia. What is a terrific beach area with a city nearby for dinner etc. Also any suggestions on hotels. I assume we can fly there from Naples and then fly back to Rome-Any suggestions as a place to stay is appreciated. We like upscale four star or five star hotels..Gene
My boyfriend and will be travelling to Sardinia 27 Sept - 1 Oct and are planning on staying at a campsite in Palau. It would appear that the beautiful Costa Smerelda area we will be staying in is also known as THE most EXPENSIVE area as well... We are travelling on a budget and would like to know if there are reasonably priced restaurants otherwise we may have to re-think where we stay in Sardinia (perhaps Alghero?) or any other suggestions?
I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks in advance
We are thinking about renting a villa Costa Smeralda in Sardinia in November. We know that it is the off season. Does the area completely shut down? We prefer fewer tourists, but want to know if some of the restaurants, food stores and shops would be open.
My boyfriend and I are travelling to Alghero for a week mid July and are looking for recommendations of nice places to camp. We are happy to travel about if anyone knows of any good camping spots further away from Alghero as well. Would also welcome any tips about great beaches / cheapish places to visit.
Thanks for the advice!
Hi! We're newlyweds, going to Sardegna on appr. 24/08-04/09 for belated honeymoon. We'd like to find some nice accomodation (B&B or appartment) not in a very crowded place. Some private place and beautiful beaches are what we're looking for.
Also we would appreciate any information about ferry (reasonable price) from Civitavecchia (we are traveling with a car).
Yes we know is not enough, but it's what we have. Anyway, is not so far from Barcelona (were all we live) and we surely want to return.
Plane and accommodation are sorted out. We found a nice apartment in the Old Town of Alghero and we are flying with Ryanair.
So, we have 6 days to fill in between (6-12 August). We plan to spend in Alghero o nearby the first and last days. Probably rent a car for the days in between, or do a mix of daytrips with public transport/daytrips with car.
I'm reading info online and here at VT, but I would like to know some first-hand experiences.
We definitely want to visit Capo Caccia /Grotta di Nettuno. Is better to go there by boat? Where to get info about the boats?
As well, we have been told hat with a car, and leaving early/returning late, it will be possible to visit Cagliari in one day. Any thoughts?
Where else you suggest for daytrips from Alghero? I know this question is vague, but we are open to all kind of suggestions: We are a group of 5 friends, aged 30s to 40s, we love mountaineering and light hiking (any interesting route there?), some like snorkeling, some just lying on the beach, some of us are interested on archeological sites... so virtually anything may be a good possibility, and maybe some daytrips will not be all together.
Last but not least, all of us like enjoying good food and wine. Not interested on wild nightlife (we would have chosen another place) but any hints regarding live music or nice bars would be appreciated too.
Sorry for asking so many questions! Thank you!
I'll be in Sardinia in the second week in September. I don't want to hire a car so I'm wondering if it is possible to move between places in Costa Smeralda using local buses. Particularly if the beaches are accessible by local public transport. I also would like to find out if there are private rooms to rent for a couple of days in each place along the way. Many thanks!
Hello, Can you please tell me how far is Olbia(Costa Esmeralda) from Cagliari, is car the only option or there is public transport as well?
Thank you for your help
