Personal Safety

We are English and booked to holiday in Sardinia in Aug 2016. Recent news articles tell of disturbances in Cagliari due to illegal / asylum seekers from Lybia many of whom have absconded. We plan to hire a car and travel the island. Has there been an increase in crime and assaults on tourists? If we continue with our holiday what advice do you have for us?

One should carefully read the news, illegal immigrants from Lybia (and other African states) come to the southernmost islands (Lampedusa), which are very far away from Sardinia.

The papers have vastly exaggerated the few problems.
Enjoy your holiday!
