Itinery help - 3 weeks and 2 small kids

Hi [VT member 93f85],

I'm struggling with our itinery. We've got just over 3 weeks for Sardinia, initially to have 1 week in Corsica and 2 in Sardinia, but I found out that this doesn't really work. Better is to stay only in Sardinia. As we've got 2 small kids (2 and 4 yrs) and my GF wants to get her Padi, we'll only stick to Sardinia.

Due to the kids, we only want to stay in accomodations that allow the kids to sleep in a separate room, such as 2-room apartments or so. To organize this last-minute (and have flexibility) won't work as I've understood, unless we will accept expensive and not as nice hotels.

We will have a rental car. Could you please recommed some good places (location and beauty) to use as hubs, as we only want to move hotels every 5 days or so? Some great family-friendly accomodation-highlights are of course more than welcome as well (B&B, house, apartment). We'll probably stay for diving in the North-West area.

I realize this is a rather broad question, but hopefully we can get some specific tips beyond what our 2 guidebooks have been able to tell us, and possibly other travellers with kids or with a long travel-time can benefit from this too.

Thanks [VT member 93f85]!!

Best regards, Robin.

Hi Robin,

I've done Sardegna two years ago, indeed is a beatuiful island of Italy. To be honest one thing in the island it doesn't offer a lot of accommodations comparing to other parts of Italy. I have traveled entired Italy, but Sardegna hasn't much choice of accommodation

For accommodation you maybe find if with separate bedroom for kids at Airbnb. The website has mostly appartments offered

We stating mostly in B&B during our trip in the island, but I don't think this kind of accommodation has two bedroom and also the room is cramed

Alghero is a nice location to based yourself, you have the beach, plenty of restaurants.

About an hour drive from Aghero you have *Bosa* certainly a good place to stay especially you have kids, close to the beach and plenty of restaurants

Check my Sardegna page/ Costa Smeralda.
Our kids the same age really enjoyed our appartment we had close to Porto Cervo.

Other than that we preferr the Costa Rei area with the kids. Not much diving though.

Thanks!! Does it make sense, seeing the amount of days (23, to be spent in 4 or 5 accomodations), to do all sides of the island? (NE, an island, NW, W, S and E)? Or is that pushing it too much?

We're flying in and out of Olbia, so I am considering:

Arrival at 19:30 at airport Olbia
4 nights in between Olbia and Palau (not too long as I feel it is a bit too upmarket and touristy to our liking?) --> Porto Cervo perhaps?
3 nights in La Maddalena, island-hopping
4 nights in Valledoria area (get diving there, start Padi theory at home before the holiday)
4 nights in Alghero (make 1 or 2 daytrips to Bosa from here?) --> or better stay in Bosa?
3 nights in one of the national parks in the center of the island (Parco Nazionale del Golfo?)
4 nights in Cagliari area (is it worth driving the distance?) or East of the island.
Last day: drive from Cagliari to the airport in Olbia (flight is only at 15:50).

I'm a bit worried if we want too much and think 23 days is a long time. Also, our interest is in a balance of coast and land, maybe also a bit of hiking. Is this too much coast and are we skipping beautiful or peaceful areas?

By the way, the trip is from June 11 to July 5.

Thanks again!!

Robin.
