What airport will you be arriving at? We toured the whole island this June and stayed in Cagliari, Cala Gonone, Arzachena and Alghero. Nice beaches are everywhere but at the eastern side there are almost no sandy beaches. Nicest beaches are in the north (Costa Smeralda, and La Maddalena Archipelago) and in the south (Santa Margherita di Pula, and Chia).
Alghero was our favourite place to stay. It's a pretty city (smallish) with a nice long beach and lots of restaurants and bars.
May should be good as far as weather is concerned. June 2015 was really HOT.

You can't go too far wrong in Sardinia, especially if you like the beach.

Which airport you're flying into, how, much you want to travel (to get to your destination, whether you want to stay in multiple places, etc.) and if you'll have a car will be the biggest factors in what you choose.

I have to agree that Alghero and its surroundings are lovely. I've been twice now and the city itself is worth a visit, while beaches like la pelosa are among the very best I've been to. We haven't yet made it to la maddalena which is supposed to be even more stunning.

If you want somewhere quieter, then I can recommend the costa Verde in the south west. We stayed there a week in July and, despite this being high season, we enjoyed amazing beaches (dunas) without the crowds. It also has fascinating mining heritage, archaeological sites and we visited cagliari for the day. Be prepared to drive a bit in this area.

On the other hand, if you like popular resorts, the costa smeralda is the 'big one'. This is where you'll see huge yachts, etc. There are affordable places to stay nearby though.

The official tourist site for the area is really good - - and helped us research. Even lists beach facilities - and there are a LOT of beaches!

Hi, I'm from Sardinia. Tell me in which airport you are going to land and I will give you some suggestions on the best things to do and to see.
