Hi [VT member 93f85]!
Im planning to visit Sancerre in the beginning of September this year. I will be traveling from Paris and want to know how I can get there with public transport. Is there a direct train to Sancerre?
What recommended wine farms are there? What suggestions would you have for us in the surrounding area?
Thanks [VT member 93f85] all the help!
There are direct trains to gare de Tracy-Sancerre. ter-sncf.com/Regions/centre/...
Choose Paris-Bercy station for your start and Tracy-Sancerre for your destination. I'm not sure where you're staying but you may have 5 km to your hotel. Taxi might be easiest with luggage. The Tracy-Sancerre station is a bit out of town across the river. There may be bus service into town. You can contact their Tourist Office for that information. tourisme-sancerre.com/main.p...
Enjoy your trip.
Thank you [VT member 7ba16]! This is good news! I'll hear fro our hotel, they might pick us up.
Do you know a lot about the area, like what farms to visit and things to do, because i cant really find information in my travel books.
Listen to gwened on wines. He knows what he's talking about. We don't even do tastings. We enjoy wine with our meals but taking vacation time to visit wineries is not on our list of things to do. Now a cheese factory . . . ;^)
If you don't have a car, visiting in the area could be limited. We thoroughly enjoyed a visit to Guedelon where they are building a castle using only 13th century materials and methods. It's fascinating and a 13th century-like village has grown up around the castle site . . . just as it would have then. It's about 30 or 40 kilometers from Sancerre. http://www.guedelon.fr/
You are about 45 kilometers from Bourges and it is a lovely small city. The cathedral is stunning; there are several beautiful gardens including one behind the cathedral and the Old Town is interesting. Check Jeannette1 for her Travel Page on Bourges because her mother lives nearby and she has recommended a couple excellent restaurants. Here's the town web site: bourges-tourisme.com/langues...
If you haven't visited Beaune, you might enjoy that although it's a distance but there is a train station there. All kinds of wine tasting in Beaune, heart of Burgundy. Lovely Old Town area and excellent restaurants too.
Enjoy your trip.
It's a beautiful area and you should have a grand time.
Is there a place in Sancerre where we can rent bikes from to cycle around the area?
Are there taxi's from the train station to ther town itself?
Just goes to show you we should read all the replies! ;^)
