Hi! I come from Turku, Finland to san juan capistrano to do my internship at the shea center and I'm looking for a place to stay in san juan capistrano for the time 17.3.2014-8.6.2014.
Does anyone know where to look for a cheap place to stay for that time?
Hello and welcome to VT.........d:o)
I suppose it depends on your definition of cheap, but in a word, no, there is really nothing cheap about San Juan Capistrano. It appears to run from $550.00 to $700.00 per month with another few hundred up front for a security deposit.
As you will see on the map above, you may need to consider the surrounding areas as well but the whole area in general is fairly upscale. The above links I included for comparison.
I'd suggest asking at the Shea Center, they may be able to supply you with information about places that other International Interns have used. The other thing I thought of is renting a room in someone's home. This would be much less expensive than trying to rent an apartment for three months. Look at the classified ads for the local news paper, under Rooms for Rent.
Yeah, that's what I did, - sorry I read your post and thought you said rooms for rent. My bad. The rooms are from $550.00 and up through $7-800.00. The apartments as you can see from the link are in the thousands of dollars.
It is entirely possible that the Shea Center has been through this a number of times and could guide you to a place perhaps frequented by prior interns.
Do you have any idea if you will obtain a car while here? If you do, it obviously gives you a greater area to consider.
Erik, it looks like we have the same ideas! LOL!
Yeah, great minds.......well you know...........d:o)
Thank You all! :) I do not have a car I can use, and the shea center didn't give me that much help. I just have to keep on googling, hehe :)
You might look at the on-line version of The Capistrano Dispatch: [original link] and look at the Rooms for Rent to get an idea of the price range at the moment. Also use something like Yahoo or MapQuest to see how far the rooms would be from Oso Road to get an idea of the distance you'll have to travel to and from the Center. I don't know about the public transportation system there but you might take a look at the Orange County Transit Authority to see what routes serve SJC:
I'm thinking most places won't be too far from the Center as SJC is only about fourteen square miles .
