San José

Safety in San Jose?

My husband and I will be arriving in San Jose in February. We're only staying 2 nights there and will be staying the rest of the time near Arenal, but are concerned about our safety in San Jose. Anyone have any tips?

Thanks so much!

hi there, I'm Costa Rican and I know San Jose pretty well.

It depends on where you guys are staying. San Jose downtown is very safe now cause there are police officers every 2 blocks. So, there's no need to panic. However, if you go to its sorroundings you won't find many police officers, as a consequence, there's more deliquency in those places.

but San Jose downtown is not dangerous.

Actually, we'll be staying about a mile from the airport, I guess. How's that area?

Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks Lisa! Sorry, I just checked the forum and we just got back. Actually we weren't in Alajuela. We were mostly in La Fortuna. Next time we will, though!
