Hi [VT member 93f85],
I will be going for the first time in SFO on the third week of December before I head to LA. I was going to go with my sibling but ended up now going solo.
I just thought if anyone of you who lives in SFO, and is free, could show me around? Nothing better than having a good company by a local. I decided not to take any summer classes at Uni (currently studying Law) - so I am looking forward to a memorable summer holiday in the USA.
Will be in SFO from 16-19 December 2016. Please let me know :) 32yo; male; traveller; sensible person here.
Regards from the Land Down Under :)
If you end up stopping in Monterey on the way down to LA, PM me. I can at least get you into the aquarium for free.
Where are you staying in San Francisco?
If you haven't found a place to stay yet in San Francisco I would highly recommend the Green Tortoise Youth Hostel. It's in a good location at 494 Broadway in the North Beach area and is close to everything you might want to see. Friendly staff, clean rooms and free breakfast all for about $ 30 a night. What is really cool about the place is that they make it easy for all the guests to meet and see some of the sights together.
Here is a link;
If you are interested let me know and I can give you the link to getting there from the airport via public transit cheaply. Have a great trip!
TooTallFinn24: Sad I have already done by accommodation before I learnt about your advise. My booking is non refundable. Anyway, thanks for your advise. :)

Hi Bocmaxima: I will be flying from SFO to LA :( I won't be having a car, and given my short time in SFO, i don't think i can go down to Monterey. I would have taken up your offer though :). Anyway, I do appreciate it.
I think I will be staying at a suburb called Concord. I will have to read about the transport to my accommodation.
Wow! Welcome to Northern California. I love to show visitors around town, but unfortunately I'll be gone at the time you arrive. Check out my pages. Key in on some neighborhoods using Google transit directions, talk to people on the train or trolley, and you will get lucky enough to have some good conversations with locals. Have fun!
I guess you're locked in, but Concord isn't really San Francisco. It's the Bay Area, but it takes an hour or so by BART to reach the city (if you're not right by the BART station, then it will take a lot longer). I mean, I like Concord and I think it's a cute suburb,, but staying there is not nearly the same as staying in San Francisco. It's a totally different vibe.
Sorry I skipped over the Concord accommodation part. You can take BART
into the city, hang around until late at night then easily return home. Not for sure which BART station you get on, but I would recommend getting off at
Montgomery Street Station in the financial district as a great entrance to the city. Walk around, then use the cheaper SFMTA
Use Uber to get around Concord IF walking is too far.
You can also easily visit UC Berkeley, the Free Speech University, and Telegraph Avenue, which is also in the east bay.
Thanks a lot atuff. Sad that you will not be there during the time that I visit your hometown :(. But should there be any chance of catching up, pls shoot me a message. :)
I'll be driving to New Orleans...
