does Rotterdam have a redlight district and coffeeshops like Amsterdam?
The Rotterdam RLD was at Katendrecht. A new area was designate at the Keileweg.
It's not like Amsterdam along a canal with side streets.
Rotterdam has coffeeshops too (in fact every Dutch town has).
The RLD at Keileweg has been closed in 2005.
Rotterdam does not have a red light district like Amsterdam.
The Keileweg is closed now and definately was not a red light district. It was a street in a industrial part of town with streetprostitues walking there.
Utrecht has a red light district.
Good to get these two responses with updated info, but is there any designated area left at Rotterdam or has the city counsil now only have the clubs legalized?
I cannot find any info about a designated area at this point. There are some clubs here and there, but not so located as to say be able to say that there is a specific RLD area.
It seems to be a new local policy. Arnhem is doing the same and even in Amsterdam some sounds are heard to removed the sex business from the RLD area.
Strictly speaking you only need red lights for a proper RLD! hahaha.
Oh yes, I remember Spijkerkwartier, Arnhem well. My parents took me around one night, after Sinterklaasshopping. Educational, I was told :-))))
As far as I know there is no designated area anymore in Rotterdam for that.
All women of the red light district are now walking in the centre of Rotterdam. Just walk outside at night and you'll meet them.
I wouldn't advise it, but just wanted to tell this.
if you want to viist the RLD as a tourist..the amsterdam RLD is your best bet.
Otherwise the closest RLD is in The Hague. But it's not as easy to find for a non local and is not really touristfriendly.
The Alkmaar RLD is a small version of Amsterdam.
Hang on. In Alkmaar? I never noticed one. Where?
LOL! Thanks. I know where this is. It'll be my first stop when I next visit Alkmaar (which is in 2 weeks time, haha!).
Try out the Turkish restaurant that's on my Alkmaar page; just 1 block from there.
Thanks but another time. I'm visiting with a Zambian and a Cypriot girl and we're going to keep to the (Dutch) restaurants for the international conference that's being organised in Alkmaar next September.
Ia m new in Utrecht, do you know where the red light district is?
thanks a lot!
not red light district in Rotterdam, they are few clubs but thats all.
Lots of coffee shops like in Amsterdam, in this page you can find some information about coffee shops and relax
An estimated 400 prostitutes work legally in Rotterdam and 450 work there illegally. Mostly to be found in bars, massage- and suntanning parlors.
Information as of March 2007.
You seem to know a lot about this ATLC !!!
nah, I simply googled that information :-)
Hmmmmm shall I believe you ;-) ROFL
I believe ATLC on her word,
but she only had to open the newspaper AD algemeen Dagblad and you have lots of ads about this issue.
you don;t have to blush anymore ATLC:-)
LOL was only joking - having a bit of fun with ATLC.
Must say though dissapointed no red light district in Rotterdam :-( ;-)
Not every city can have what Amsterdam has, is it:-)
ah yes, I remember now. I was triggered by the fact that Rotterdam has no RDL (but it does have its fair share of prostitution though). And then I saw the figures.
It seems that packartl, the man or woman, who posted the question is not in town anymore.
i suggest this forumposting closed. But everyone who want to go on, you're welcome.
There's no rotter dam than amsterdam :)
