I am from Massachusetts and we are planning to travel to Newport beach this Sunday. Have a couple of questions --
1) How much the parking (weekend) in NEwport beach area . Some websites say $20, some says $28 .. confusing
2) I heard there is a new toll when travelling to Newport . Has that started ?
3) How is the parking availability on Sunday morning (around 11 AM) ?
4) We are a group of about 6 families and planning for a picnic . Which beach would you suggest ? (This should have been the first question :) )
Wondering if anyone knows of a good beach town(s) in Rhode Island. Preferably something with some shopping and a bit of a nightlife. If this is asking too much, just a good beach in general will suffice. Thanks in advance.
Where can we go after work to hear some live music (guitar/piano) while having a couple of cocktails ? Preference is Providence metro area, but we could drive a bit. Thanks !
We have a single June day for sightseeing, starting out our day In Warwick, Rhode Island.
Would you recommend Newport, Rhode Island or Mystic, Connecticut?
We know that Newport has many beautiful 19th century mansions and a quaint downtown area. We also have read about Mystic's Seaport, its ships, and its relocated historic buildings.
Which place in your opinion is a better use of our sightseeing day and will be more memorable? Why?
I'm planning to go from Boston to NYC next January. I have only one day to visit Rhode Island with my family. Where is the best place to stay? Newport or Providence?
Hello, We are planning to visit Cape Cod (a day trip from Boston). Can someone guide us to the best sea beach. We like sea shore where you feel the waves and wind.
Information about other places of interest too will be very much appreciated.
I am traveling from NYC to Providence and then Boston. I was planning to use Amtrak, but having never been to Providence or Boston, I'm not sure how easy it is to get around either one without a car. How good is the public transport in Providence? Also, what should I try to see if I am in Providence for only 2 or 3 days?
I'll be in Providence, RI for couple of days on official business, so I can do sight seen only after about 4 or 5PM. Also I don't have a car, so I would need places that are accessible by public transportation.
1. What are some good sight seen places?
2. I would like to try some good local restaurants for dinner. specially the following
- place for clam chowder
- place for lobster
- another place for sushi
- anything else that you recommend?
2. I have on half day free on one day and planning to hop on the train and go to Boston. so recommendations from Boston are also welcome.
Hi, my parents and I are visiting Providence from Ireland at the end of April. We want to take my brother out for a great meal to help celebrate his 40th birthday. I would appreciate any suggestions you might have for me. Thanks.
Does anyone know the cheapest or most intersting way to get between these two cities? I understand that Rhode Island isn't the most budget friendly state, but I'm looking to be surprised.
Three of us travelling (with baggage) from Boston to Newport RI spending 3 days in and around the latter. Considering taking the train but not sure if we'd miss having our own transport in Newport? Presume we'd have to change at Providence and then get a bus to Newport? Not sure if the savings would be worth the hassle...
Any thoughts appreciated.
I am thinking of relocating to Rhode Island and want a quaint neighborhood within walking distance of a quaint little town or village. Does anyone have any suggestions? Pawtuxet village looks cute.. how big is it and what kind of shops are there? Any info would be helpful..Thanks.
Two couples driving from Penna the end of Sept. would like some guidance re things to see in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachussetts. We will be travelling for 6-7 or 8 days and would appreciate a suggested routing and things to see.
We're looking to take a post-Labor Day vacation to Rhode Island with our then 10-month-old. Block Island sounds nice - does it shut down the day after Labor Day? Any other places in RI we should be looking? We'd like a quiet area, on the beach or as close as possible to minimize schlepping, probably not a B&B since we have the baby, but would consider renting a cottage for the week. A hotel/motel would be fine too. Any suggestions? We don't have a fortune to spend, trying to keep under100/night for accommodations. Thanks for any help!
We are planning to visit Rhode Island in August. It will be our first trip there. Could you recommend any good but not expensive Bed & Breakfast? How many days do you think is enough to stay ?
Hi, Are there any restaurant (lunch) suggestions that offer vegetarian or vegan options between PVD airport in Warwick and Uxbridge, MA (I-295 & Rt 146)? I'd also be interested in a brick-oven or wood-fired pizzeria. Any suggestions would be most helpful.
Hi, I'm driving from Warwick, RI, to Uxbridge, MA on a Friday in August and I'm hoping someone can suggest a place to visit for an hour or two along the way. My flight arrives at PVD in the morning and my hosts aren't expecting me until late in the afternoon and the drive takes only 45 minutes. My hope is that there might be a picturesque / historical / artistic sight or attraction not too far off the main route of I-295 & 146. Any suggestions would be most helpful.
My brother is going to Rhode Island next month. He is gonna study bachelor at jansson university. I am worring coz I heard that it is one of the most expensive states of usa. is that true?. and is there any advise to tell my brother about. someone please advise on the top four points to take into consideration?
thanks in advance
Hi everyone, We're travelling to RI next August. We have accommodation sorted in Wakefield. We have two teenage sons who are big into water activities. Are there any water parks in that area? What about canoeing or other water based activities? How easy would it be to find watersports lessons or group activities? Can anyone suggest things to do with boys who are not interested in history, art or culture!!
Does anyone know if there are public transport links between the airport and the Providence Amtrak station?
we are a group of students from Ireland coming to Newport RI on a student visa for the summer months. We were wondering what the job prospects are like (we aren't fussy) and we are also looking to rent accommodation near enough to the town centre.
I would really appreciate any suggestions!
I am considering a trip to Newport RI in early November (perhaps from the 4th to the 8th). I've been thinking about visiting New England for awhile now, and I've always been told that the autumn foilage in that area is particularly spectacular. Down here, the leaves are just now beginning to change. How far along are they up in RI? (Will they have fallen off by the time I get there?) Also, how cold does it get in Newport in early November? I'd like to check out some of the mansions...is it expensive to get inside them? One last thing: will the good folks of RI be hospitable to an unarmed non-redneck southerner? Any feedback would be most welcome and appreciated.
We are going to be spending two nights in RI in July. I am looking at two hotel properties... does anyone know anything about either of these?
Knights Inn in Seekonk, MA.
Extended Stay in West Warwick, RI
Should I book either of these or should I keep looking?
We are going to RI next summer. We (two couples of us) are looking for advise in regard to lodging. We are looking for a reasonably priced place (we'd like to stay under100 per night) that is clean and comfortable. I'm not too picky about what part of the state (it's just not big enough to be worry about distances!), but we are pretty picky about air conditioning, neighborhoods and cleanliness. Condos, hotels, cabins - whatever. Any suggestions?
I can't decide which route to take: Starting in New York (after doing a Harbor Tour, Central Park and a Broadway show) then off to New England to explore and catch the fall colors...we have two weeks for the whole trip in mid October. Some highlights we want to incorporate are Vermont/fall foliage, Maine/harbors, lighthouses, seafood, Massachusetts/Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod and Rhode Island/Newport. We're thinking of taking a train out of New York and picking up a car somewhere in New England. Any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks in advance :)
Hi everyone! I'm going to the Providence Water Fire Show on October 18 ... anyone want to meet me there?
A bunch of friends and I are renting a house in Newport for the the month of July. Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do down there? Also, we are still looking for a couple of people to join us in renting the house. Any suggestions as to where to find such people? Thanks.
