I hope to be visiting Recife in March. I have heard that it can rain a lot at this time. Is this in the form of heavy downpours or does it go on for days, is this a bad time to visit?
Also, if hiring a car is it a feasible option to drive to Maceio, I cannot find out how far it is from Recife.
Any tips for visiting this area will be very welcome.

you might have downpours in the evening, but they are generally short and heavy.
hiring a car in brazil is quite expensive because of high insurance costs.
