White water rafting in Feb

Is white water rafting on the shotover river in Feb a waste of time? I have read that river levels can be low so there are hardly any rapids. I don't want a calm peacefull ride

I am not into rafting - but you cannot generalise things, as water volume and wildness hugely depend on the weather. If it has not rained for ages the rapids are surely not as exciting in February as after the snow melt in the Southern Alps.

You also have to distinguish between the various rivers where they do whitewater rafting in the Queenstown region. Whereas the Kawarau is rather a calm river for beginners and low-risk takers, it is more exciting on the Shotover and in Skippers Canyon (heli-rafting) which is the wilder and narrower part of the Shotover river.
