we have an opportunity to go VERY last-minute to Puerto Rico. Where in PR would you go if you wanted a semi-budget but more important clean and safe way to enjoy the beach/sea/water not too tough to get to? It's the 26th and we'd be leaving the 28th so there's not a lot of time to plan. I looked around and can easily dig into specific locations but trying to figure out which one so far has been an adventure. We may stay a night or three in San Juan to see the city.
We have about a week including New Year's Eve.
Any other tips (airport transfer, getting around, rental car if needed, hotels, activities, food, etc, etc). I have no problem doing my research on food, hotels, etc.
Thanks in advance for any tips. I'll also be off to try to find PR pages to browse.
Hi, I'll be arriving in Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport and I was wondering what are the options to go to downtown and which one do you recommend?
Thank you for your help!
On a spur of the moment I purchased tickets to San Juan Puerto Rico for early November. The round-trip airfare was too good to pass up, especially to a place I've always wanted to visit. My question is where should I stay? I'm debating renting an apartment or an all-inclusive resort. I'll be there for 5 days would love to keep the cost under $1000. Has anyone rented an apartment from the locals? If so where and how did you like it. My purpose is to relax, chill at the beach and enjoy the culture and possibly make a friend or two. I'm not big into the club scene but wouldn't mind checking out one or two. Mainly I just want to have a good and safe vacation to remember.
Going to PR for first time in November to attend a wedding in Caguas and vaca for a couple weeks.
Staying in San Juan and going to Caguas several times.
I've been studying transportation options and unless I rent a car, it doesn't look like there are many transportation options between San Juan and Caguas.
Taxi? Uber? Train? ??
IF, I end up renting a car, any recommendations regarding rental companies, etc.?
Thanks in advance!
Hello fellow travelers. I am looking for your suggestions on which zip lining location to go to. I found several locations but having a hard time choosing. I've zip lined before (in Belize) and looking for a spot no more than one hour outside of San Juan. I am informed of what the hotel is doing about Zika prevention but do I need to worry about it since zip lining locations are in the woods/forest?

Has anyone been on a boat tour of Monkey Island? I heard this is a fun trip to take with kids. Can you tell more about it. Thank you.
Hi there. I am dying to go to Puerto Rico but I can only go in August and I see many travel warnings for this in this time for rain and hurricane. Can someone local please tell me the reality and truth? I will need the truth since I will be travelling with two young children. Thank you!
We're looking for a hotel which is close to all the major attractions. Can you recommend a place where to book which is close to all the major attractions? Also we're spending 4 days in Puerto Rico. Can you recommend places which is a must visit during our stay? Thank you very much.
Hey guys,So I was going to go back to Kenya my home country for a month, but then realized that the ticket there can actually pay for me to see a new part of the world, complete with accommodation. Any ideas of where to go with this kind of budget and this kind of time? August 12th-September 10th. puerto Rico? Where, where?
Looking for a car service to take two adults around San Juan and surrounding area. We would like to experience local areas and culture. Doesn't need to be a fancy car. English required. Recommendations appreciated.
Hi, we are a British family looking to go to Puerto Rico for a holiday and as none of the UK tour companies offer this island, we are going to have to create our own tailor made holiday. We are looking to stay 10 days at a beach resort that is kid friendly and has restaurants etc nearby. Are there any reputable tour companies in Puerto Rico that could help with resort transfers from the airport etc ?? Thanks for your help.
I am reaching San Juan PR Saturday(29th August) after noon. I saw Puerto Rico has been hit by floods. It may be devastating out there by then. Is this the right time to visit? Is there any precautions I need to take and how to deal with the people? I cannot cancel the trip since I already paid full amount.
A friend and I are talking about going to Puerto Rico. He doesn't do well in the heat and sun, and he doesn't want to swim. He is not a shopper either. What are some fun activities that will make a three or four night trip worthwhile?
He loves music, especially blues, and he loves to dance, Latin, blues and freestyle.
Thank you for any input you can offer!!
Staying in the condado area on our upcoming trip. We were thinking of driving down to the rainforest sat morning and then figured instead of coming back to san juan, we might as well do some stuff around there so we dont drive back and forth. I thought checking out the bio bay might be worth it. Ive heard that the tours in Vieques are better. How can we get from the rainforest to vieques. Can we drive down to Fajardo, park there and take a ferry or a boat tour?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I'm looking to rent a car in Old San Juan to explore outside of that area. The reviews I have read online (yelp, in particular) have been horrible. Reviews state horribly long waits, jacked up fees etc. I am looking to rent from companies familiar with me such as Budget, Hertz etc, but all have two stars online. Any feedback would be appreciated!
I have been to Puerto Rico several times because my family lives there. However, I haven't been able to explore the hidden gems of Puerto Rico. I am inviting a male friend to join me Friday to Sunday and want him to experience Puerto Rican culture and cuisine. I want to pack in as much fun as I can that would be the most memorable and more of what a male would want to do...
We'll be spending about 12 days in PR in February - 2-4 days in each of the following: Old Town, El Yunque, Vieques and Culebra. We have about 24 hours with a rental car (landing about noon in Ceiba, and departing next day from SJU). Without pounding the road too hard, any suggestions for that last day/night? We're not too keen on big resorts, especially all-inclusives.
I'm planning my wedding @ El conquistador for next year & my family keeps finding articles about puerto rico being unsafe. We are from a suburb near Chicago and I keep reassurimg them it will be fine as long as we stay near the resort. Does anyone have any experiences in this area to speak to? I appreciate the reassurance! Thanks!
I am visiting PR in April with 11 of my friends. One of the days I wanted to do a private boat/catamaran tour for 5-6 hours. We are staying in the Condado area. Any recommendations on who I can work with to do a private charter but reasonably priced?
Thanks in advance.
I'm a US citizen and resident, planning a trip to PR. Is there ANY reason to take a passport?
I am going with a group of 11 people on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015. Our cruise ship is in port from 3pm to 10pm. Can anyone one suggest authentic Puerto rican food? We are also looking for fun bars (for over 30 yr olds) to spend the rest of the time in port.
We'll have a rental car on the big island, but taking a two-night side trip to Vieques by air from Ceiba. I have heard that leaving a car may not be safe. Can anyone tell me if I need to find a "secure" lot, or is basic airport parking adequate?
I understand there is a road closure due to a landslide on highway 191 through El Yunque, but I can't find specifics on just where that closure is. Can anyone help me?
In some countries there is a service called a "rent a local friend". Is there in Puerto Rico?
Planning travel for February. My Fodor's guide makes it sound like a piece of cake to and between Vieques and Culebra from the main island. But my research indicates that it's rather expensive to fly, and that ferries are unpredictable at best, and almost no way to get between the islands without going back to PR.
Can anybody give me any suggestions?
Can someone recommend a nice hostel in puerto rico, where it's easy to meet other travellers, backpackers?
It would be perfect, when there is the possibility included to take surf lessons (or diving), but the most important thing is to meet other people, maybe at the beach but also with the option to party.
Any suggestions? Budget: around 50$/night
We are eloping to OSJ Puerto Rico this month. Where is the best place to have a romantic celebration dinner? Thanks!
I'm planning a 5 day vacation to PR in April 2015. I will have a large group - anywhere from 15 to 20. I'm planning on doing a vacation rental from one of the popular sites. But am struggling on location. We want to be on the beach in a safe area but close enough to the city so we can drive or take a cab. Not sure if that's possible but want some suggestions on areas to stay in. Thanks in advance.
Do non-Americans require a passport to renter the mainland US from Puerto Rico? I'm looking for somewhere to travel to from the US that will get my passport stamp updated when i return (they incorrectly gave me a tourist entry when I last arrived). Thanks.
