We are a family of 3 from Canada with a one year old child. We are planning to move to in the Nijmegen surroundings. I would like to know what should I expect in terms of difficulties of finding a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment within 30-40 minutes from Radboud university, rent price etc.
I've heard that you can get a subsidy from the Dutch government if you are a student and have an independent apartment not exceeding 650 EUR rent per month, how realistic is to find an apartment not exceeding this limit?
Please note that our baby sleeps with us in the same bed, it is Ok if we have to go with only 1 bedroom as long as it's not smaller than 60m2.
We will be staying in Uddel near Apeldoorn for 10 days from May 22. We have a car and will be taking day trips to Brugges, Koln and Amsterdam.
Does anyone have suggestions for shorter day trips near Uddel? We love scenic drives, museums, Castles and quaint villages. Any help on small town restaurants or shops would be much appreciated.
We will also be cooking some of our own meals so help on markets or grocery stores would also be helpful.
We are from a small town near Ottawa, Canada and if the Netherlands villages are anything like ours there are probably quite a few hidden treasures out there. Thanks.
Hopefully the VT moderators won't find this inappropriate as it has nothing to do with g***s at all.
Odd things catch my eye when I wander and as I was writing up my Apeldoorn page I found a pic I'd taken of a definitely phallic sculpture on one of the roads leading out of town. Then I realised I'd taken a similar pic at Nijmegen at the park there heading towards the museum (pic #2).
I'd be interested if any of the locals could shed some light on these - ie What? Why? Who by?

Hello fellow Vt'ers. We are driving up from Germany this Sunday the 15th for the concert in Goffert park. I want to drop off two people and continue out of the city to Arnhem. Any suggestions on the best route to do this to avoid congested areas. I have a GPS system.
This summer, I will be spending a week at Landal Heidenheuvel in Beekbergen. What is the best way to travel to Amsterdam? Any cost estimates will also be appreciated.
we're heading to the Apeldoorn area next week and will stay there for a week.
This includes 2 families with total of 5 small kids (2-6 years old)
We're looking for a nice family restaurants in the area, where we could eat dinners during this week.Preferrably not very expensive, yet good food and kids-friendly places. We never been in this area before, and don't know where to look for the good restaurants. Unfortunately with 5 kids in the cars, you can't be too spontanious and expect a good food:-)
I would really appreciate any help!
Where is Rheden? Which would be the closest airports?
