Visiting my college student daughter, need recommendation on sites to visit outside of Mendoza. Should we rent a car or is there other tranportation options? We have a week to explore? Is driving to Salta unrealistic or to Bariloche. Don't want to be just driving but having a few interesting stops or overnights would be great. Is it safe for two women to be travelling alone in these areas?
How long is the bus ride from Santiago to Mendoza? How much does it cost? What is the condition of the bus? Any suggestions? Thanks.
My wife and I would like to visit wineries in mendoza. We would start from santiago and return to santiago. We can take as much as 3 or 4 days. Should we take a packaged tour or travel on our own? If a tour, are there some recommended tour companies? If we go on our own what is the best way to arrange it? Should we fly or go by train, bus or car with driver? Thanks in advance for any recommendations.
Hi. I've been reading about tours in Mendoza. I'll only have a few days there, and I want to see as much as possible. It seems like the "Alta Montaña" tour is a popular one. Can anyone recommend this? How much do you get to see?
I'll be arriving from Santiago. Does anyone know where that bus stops? Once I get to Mendoza and head back out to see the sights, will the Alta Montaña tour cover things I've already seen?
I've heard good things about Villavicencio, Los caracoles (a highway?), and hiking near Aconcagua.
Hi to all. Do you have some infos about Climbing Aconcagua (Normal Route)? I don't want to take any overpriced organized tour...If you have been there and if you did it please, let me know. I also need to know the basic info: It's easy to get some water during the trek or I should bring with me several liters ? ...etc.etc.etc. PLEASE...OLY IF YOU HAVE BEEN THERE...don't send me any link of any organized tour.
Thanks to all
I'm looking to stay in Mendoza for 3-5 days, and since it's such a short time I want to shore things up in advance. I've been looking at two hostels: Winca's and Damajuana. Has anyone stayed at either of these places and can recommend them?
Also, there seem to be a thousand different tours you can go on in Mendoza. WIth only a few days, what should I prioritize? Wineries? Valle de la Luna? Aconcagua? Malargue? Should I try to take driving tours and see as much as I can, or pick one or two things and do some long treks?
Hi. I expect to spend about 7-10 days in Mendoza in January, and I'm looking for recommendations on the absolute best hikes/treks. Anything in the range of 1-4 days. I'm looking for the best views of the Andes and the most beautiful trails! It seems like many people do the approach to Aconcagua... is this really the best??
When my partner and I went to Bolivia we discovered the most incredible hike we'd ever done (Choro Trek), but we only heard about it word-of-mouth. So we're hoping to repeat that experience!

My wife and I plus two friends will be traveling in Chile and Argentina in February and the first part of March. We will be in Bariloche through March 2nd. We want to reach Mendoza by the 6th. If possible, we don't want to travel through the city of Nequen. Is it possible to travel by bus from Bariloche along the following route: Bariloche, San Martin, Junin, Zapala, Malargue, San Rafael, Mendoza? We want to see the countryside along the way and hug the east side of the Andes. If this route is problematic, do you have any other suggestions about the best way to travel from Bariloche to Mendoza by bus?
My wife and I are planning a trip to Chile and Argentina during the month of February, 2008. One of our stops will be Mendoza, Argentina. I have been trying to research the availability of hotel rooms that we could book well in advance of our trip. I have checked many online resources (such as Orbitz, Kayak, etc.), but these show that most hotel rooms are already unavailable. Is it really that difficult to find a decent room in Mendoza during the month of February? And do you know of any hoteles or hosterias that would have available rooms during that month?
hey there! Can anyone suggest hiking trails in the Mendoza area? My friend and I would love to go hiking for one or 2 days in the area, and ideally in or near the Andes. What are the possibilities out there? Also, are there any trails with a hut or some hostel/hotel along or near the trail? And what's the weather like at night in the mountains around this time of the year (in case we decide to camp after all)?
Thanks a lot!!
Has anyone recently travelled from La Serena, Chili, to Mendoza with the Cavalle bus company? How was the trip? The bus?
Does anyone know of a florist in Mendoza that would deliver and take a credit card payment over the phone or web? Thanks.
Does anyone know if there is a direct bus from Mendoza to Santiago del Estero? If so, how long would it take? Are there any websites of bus agencies that you can recommend? If not to Sgo, maybe to Tucuman? Thanks-Emily
ill (most likely) be studying in mendoza next july-december... and after my classes are over, ill have about one month to travel. (i also plan to do "weekend trips" from mendoza during the semester). i have a couple of questions...i dont really have a good idea of distances (ill be taking the bus).. when im in mendoza, i want to see as much of argentina and chile as possible.
1) how long by bus would it take to the southern tip of south america from mendoza? my ideal would be to take a south-eastern route from mendoza down south, and then come back up to mendoza along the chilean coast (visiting many places in the meantime of course)?
any idea about bus costs would be helpful as well..
2) any advice as to the most unique, interesting places around mendoza? cities or nature...
3) what regions in the vicinity of mendoza should be avoided, if any? (for danger, or just lack of interesting things)
I plan to travel from Mendoza to Santiago by bus. I wonder whether >
or mountain sickness might be a problem since the trip is made throughout the
Andes. My body is not used at all to high altitudes. Actually I live by the sea.
Has any fellow traveller ever experienced this?
Thanks to everyone who has helped me to plan my trip thus far. I have a few more questions!
First, does anyone have a good recommendation for a fun restaurant in Mendoza? Also, any good ideas for a fun nightclub on Friday night?
Second, has anyone ever been to the town of San Martin? We are planning on staying there for 2-3 nights. One day, we want to hire a driver and go wine tasting. We have heard some about hot springs, but are not really sure if there are any closeby or not. Any ideas? What other activities can we do while we're here? Hiking? Paragliding?
Lastly, we are thinking about staying in an estancia in San Luis. Is this a cool place to stay? How long does it take by bus or car to get there from Mendoza? Do you think that Aconcagua would be a better place to go?
Thanks for everyone's help! You have all been so great! Can't wait to be in Argentina in 2 and a half weeks!
What is a good rafting company for Cano Atuel? What is the level of difficulty I can expect for the trip?
Hello everyone, Looking at two options. 1. Trying to find a car rental agency in Mendoza and driving to Santiago with a stop for a couple days at Portillo. This will be for ski season next year. Then turning the car in at Santiago. Having a difficult time locating online a car rental company that does one way rentals. 2. Or, taking the bus from Mendoza to Santiago, and assuming I can get off at Portillo. Once again this would be winter ski season. I assume the buses run that time of year. I also realize there is a major pass to go over at the border with Chile. Then somehow getting to Santiago from Portillo by public means. Suggestions please. Regards, Craig / USA
I'm trying to confirm the dates of the Fiesta de la Vendimia for 2005 - I've read on a web page that it is the first Saturday in March each year, but would like to confirm that it is Saturday 5 March 2005 because I would like to plan my trip around that date. Apart from the street parade and crowning of the beauty queens (I understand that is on the evening of the parade) are there other festivities around that date that I should not miss?

Q: Hello everybody, I am going on a 3 weeks trip to Argentina, from Feb 20th to March13th, and would like to maybe meet someone to share part of the experience. I am not looking to travel with someone the whole time, but if we are are both at the same place at the same time, let's meet !! I'm a 26 years old girl. I intend to do some hiking and of course, site-seeing. My itinerary is pretty much planned (Iguazu, Salta, Mendoza, Perito Moreno and Tierra del Fuego), but I am open to any fun suggestions. Give me a shout if this sounds interesting to you. Bye bye and happy traveling to all!! Cristina
