My fiance and I are considering coming to Guanacaste for our honeymoon in early September (probably Sept. 2 - 11). However, we are nervous after hearing it will be the peak of the rainy season! Can anyone describe what the weather is really like there in September? Does it rain every day? Does it rain at the same time every day? Does it rain all day long, or just for a few hours? Obviously, we don't want it to be overcast and gloomy all day long on our honeymoon. We appreciate any detail that can be provided!
My wife and I will be traveling throughout Costa Rica. We arrive in San José and from there go to Arenal. From there we go to Guanacaste, and then return to San José. We have the option to rent a car or to take shuttles from each place. We were wondering how good the road system is in Costa Rica. Would it be worth it to rent a car, or would it be safer to go with a shuttle service? Also, does anyone know how long it takes to travel from each San José to Arenal, Arenal to Guanacaste, and Guanacaste to San José? Lots of questions I know, if anyone could help that'd be great. Thanks!
Is it advisable to drive ( or take a shuttle ) from Punta Islita to the Tamarindo area, using highway 21 ? Or should we fly ?
Is the drive safe ? Things to see ?
How serious is this news? Should I cancel my trip on Nov14-21?
"November 3, 2012 – COSTA RICA - Costa Ricans are on alert, which was declared by the National Committee of Emergency due to the seismic activity in the central region. The western province of Guanacaste and the Great Metropolitan Area are the most active regions and authorities are asking residents a continued vigilance. Although other movements must occur to catalog the situation, it is peculiar the succession of recent tremors in very short periods of time, said seismological network specialist of the University of Costa Rica, Lepold Linkimer."
My fiance and I will b going to Guanacaste (Riu Palace) in late january for 8 days. I have been doing a lot of research on the Canopy tours(zip line) and hot spring tours. i was wondering if anyone has been to any of these tours in the area of the RIU. some of the places i wanted to go were way to far. like skytrek tours since they had the longest zip lines. i was looking at tabacon hot springs but i read some post in the forums saying that there are better hot springs closer to the resort. such as in Rincón de la Vieja. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. also, if there are any other areas that are a must to see , tamarindo or fishing tours i'd be interested in hearing about them. also, i know about the RIU and what they did so im over that detail. thanks for your help
Possible headed to CR Mar 17th for a week. Looking at Tamarindo and Playa Grande. Big question is should we rent a car? We are flying into Liberia, the RT shuttle will cost us80 and I can get a car for under200. We have been to CR before, Monteverde, Arenal and know that the roads can be crazy. How easy is it to get from Playa Grande to Tamarindo without a car? looks like there is some kind of bus taxi to go across the peninsula. Also with a car we have the option to check out some other areas nearby. How bad are the roads around Tamarindo?
I am new to this forum, and I am looking for some help in choosing a place to stay in Guanacaste. We are a family of three - 2 adults and a 13 yo - and we are looking to rent a condo or villa on or close to the beach. We are flying in from Liberia and will probably not rent a car, so we would love to be somewhere that allows us to walk to restaurants, markets, etc. I have found LOTS of rental possibilities in our price range. But I need suggestions about what areas people recommend. We are looking at the following areas: Playa Coco, Tamarindo, Ocotal, Flamingo, Junquillal and Hermosa. I would love any and all feedback! :) Thanks!! Ellin
It is our first visit and we are using Marriott reward pts so the two hotel choices are JW MArriott in Guanacaste or Los Suenos by Jaco. We want to see the main sights in Costa Rica and will be driving so which hotel is the best location?
How long from San Jose to Gunacaste?
Can you get up and back in the same day or would one need to stay up there and return the next night?
I plan on looking at some rentals and or homes for sale.
Can anyone gimme some advice on places to stay and transport going to Rincon de la Vieja?
For example, is Liberia a good place to base yourself in? how long does it take to get to Rincon from Liberia? how do I go about arranging transport or tours? etc.
any info is useful info
Ok, anybody know how to get to Liberia from Monteverde/Santa Elena? cos I heard there's no direct buses to there.
Also, if anybody knows of some hostels you'd recommend and where to book tours to Rincon de la Vieja that be much appreciated.
Hi there and thanks for reading.
I've read the tourism sites online, but am having trouble narrowing down exactly where to go in Guanacaste.
We'll (my gf + me) will be flying into Liberia, renting a car and then driving to the beach to spend about 10 days in late July/early August. Which beach is up in the air.
We don't surf and don't plan to, but would be very interested in snorkeling. From what I've read, Tamarindo is more developed, rowdier (relatively) and more surfing-oriented, so we'll probably stay away from there. Playa Grande has been recommended also, but it seems so close to Tamarindo.
I've been leaning toward Playa Conchal/Brasilito and have found a couple of places to stay. I've gotten recs about Conchal, but it was from tour guides and people who lived there.
For accommodations, we're not looking for luxury. We just want a comfortable, clean and cheap (under60/night) place to sleep, that's very close, if not on, the beach. It would also be nice to find a place with discounts for the long stay, since we're planning on being on the beach for at least 7 days.
Thanks in advance,
I will be vacationing in Playa Hermosa Guanacaste this April and am interested in hiring the services of a cook and maid. I am also interested in renting a boat. Can anyone steer me in the right direction.
We are going to Costa Rica next week and staying for the week at Villas Sol. We want to go sport fishing, and maybe dive if there is a resort dive certification. I haven't read anything about diving, so I was just wondering..
I am a male college student and I will be in Guanacaste for 6 and a half weeks this summer with plenty of free time to spend on the beach. This will be my second trip to this area, my last trip I was unable to spend much time on the beach. I was wondering about swimwear for guys. Do any of you know what swimwear the locals wear as well as what swimwear is acceptable to tourists>? Im planning and preparing the things I am bringing with me so quick responses are appreciated.
We are travelling to Playa Hermosa CR Feb 20. from Alberta Canada

Hi - we are planning to spend part of our trip at Flamingo Beach Resort and then the balance at a Condo in Playa Conchal on the Paridisus resort complex. We are not planning to rent a car and are wondering how far apart the two places are. Will it be easy to get a taxi - do hotels provide transfers - how much would it cost....
My family and I are going to be renting a house for our vacation. We would like to find a local woman to come and cook for us at the house. Does anyone know how we can find someone like this?
Hello. I will be vacationing in Playa Hermosa and I was wondering if anyone here had had the experience of driving from there to Malpais. Am looking for advice on the best route to take to get there. Thanks in advance for any advice offered.
I have just studied the map and see that no place is easy and I guess I already knew that from last year. However, would it be best to go from Playa Grande to Belen, down to Sta. Cruz, down to Pueble Viejo and over to Pto. Moreno or try smaller roads with more turns and twists to get to Palo Verde? Looks like a long, long way but I guess the map miles are in kms.
Hey, I am asking this in several forums praying for some answers. I am too old to be planning such a vacation for so many on my own. However, I bet we have a ball even if we get lost several times.
We will be staying in Playa Grande on the beach for 10 days beginning Dec. 6. The house is surrounded by a couple of acres with trees, or so it says. Do any of you who might read this question feel there will be birds and monkeys around that area? Also on the Estuary between Playa Grande and Tamarindo? Thank you for any information.
Does anyone know a car rental agency in Playa Hermosa?? I'd like to book online.
we are bound for flamingo, staying at casa palombia.
we will be self catering and needing to get a large amount of provisions. we need to know the nearest large supermarket for a onestop shop!! we are prepared to drive.
also any recommendations for great restaurants?? any cuisine local or not.
We're heading to CR June 23-30 we are 2 adventurous young couples . First 4 days in Tamarindo, no plans for the last 3 days. Want something not commercial, want to get inland, hike, canopy, waterfalls, raft, etc. Want to stay relatively close to Liberia since we'll be flying out of there on the 30th. Would love some suggestions. We will have a car. Thanks
I am landing in Liberia on June 20th. Are there taxi's available to take me to my resort at Playa Flamingo ? If so, what are the price ranges. Thanks!!!
I am wondering how is the weather now, in the Gulf of Papagayo Guanacaste area. I couldn't find a website for details about the weather. Is it sunny in the morning, and then rains in the afternoon and then clears up? Or has it been raining all day? Any details you can provide regarding the weather in this area, or a website to check for updates, would be much appreciated! I am arriving on Saturday for a week.
I am planning to visit CR in the 1st week of June for 6 nights. I am planning 3 nights to kind of relax on the beach side of Guanacaste and then spend 3 more nights near arenal seeing the rain forest, volcano and wild life. Any thoughts on where to stay at these places and what all to do? I dont want it to be too hectic. I am also thinking of driving from Liberia to Guanacaste and then to Arenal area. What do you guys think?
I've heard that Playa Grande has been developed extensively in the last couple years. I'm planning to visit Costa Rica again soon and I haven't been up north in a while. Does anyone one have any pictures or info on recent developements and building in that area? I may decide to go way south so I can experience a little of the old Costa Rica. Any suggestions?
I am travelling to Costa Rica (Provincia de Guanacaste) in mid-June.
What is the weather like during this time ? (I heard it was the rainy season)
Where is the best place in Costa Rica to find white-sand beaches (for sunbathing & relaxing) ?
