Alternative transportation from Havana to Varadero  (1 Answer)

I'm looking to leave Havana later in the evening for Varadero. However, the last bus from Viazul departs at 6pm and I want to stay longer than that.

There is another bus company called Astro, but not so sure if it's for locals only and what their schedule is like.

Some have said taking a tourist minibus was another option, but I have no idea of the company names.

I was also informed that I could go to Tropicana half hour before the show ends and ask for a ride back to Varadero, which would cost around 25CUC. Anybody knows if that can be done?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want to pay 80CUC one way cab fare.

New Year's Eve 2007/2008

Does anyone know a nice place in Havana to spend New Year's Eve? A place where all the action is... We haven't booked a casa yet but could use some advice here. And ofcourse, what about the nightlife? What's a don't-miss?

Interpreter/guide/people working with tourists  (2 Answers)

We are two Danish boys (perhaps even men soon?) travelling to Cuba, mainly Havana, from october 11 to october 24. We will be staying at a hotel in Habana Vieja.

We are students, doing a project on tourism in Cuba, and would like to talk to a lot of Cubans about how they see the increase in tourism in the country. One of us speaks a little Spanish, but not good enough to have meaningful conversations in Spanish, so it would be great if we could find someone who speaks good English (and Spanish off course :-)) to help us out during the stay. Maybe for 2-3 days during the period we are there.

We do not have a lot of money, but we will off course pay this person something to help us out.

Does anybody have any good ideas or contacts we can use?

We would also like to make a few appointments to talk to people who work in the tourism industry (hotel-owners, casa particular-owners, restaurant-owners, bartenders, guides etc), so if you work in this field - or know somebody who does - and you would like to help us out with some contacts, that would be fantastic.

We hope to hear from you. Either in here or on our e-mail: [email]

Getting into Cuba.  (2 Answers)

Hi I am going down to visit Cuba in February. I will be staying with my girlfriend who is a student at university there. I will be going with two friends who plan on staying at a casa particulare. What is the best way to get through immigration? Should I tell them I have a reservation at a hotel, and provide the contact details for a hotel in havana? Or should we be straight up and say we are staying at Casa Particulares? My friends don't have reservations, but my girlfriend lives there and says she will be able to find them a place to stay very easily. I'm just slighlty worried because I've read in numerous places that one needs a hotel reservation to get into the country, and without one they may force me to buy hotel vouchers. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ryan

Havana Accomodations  (4 Answers)

I am travelling to Havana on Feb.3 and would like to stay at a good Casa Particulaire in Old Havana for 6 nights. I would then like to go to the beach in Varadero and stay in private accomodation for 4 nights. I want to return to Havana for another four nights and am looking for accomodation in Central Havana if that is a good choice. If that is not the best place to stay then perhaps another 4 nights in Old Havana will be okay. Any advice or recommendations anyone has will be appreciated. Thanks
