Provence France1 week extra  (3 Answers)

I will be ending a tour of southern France on a Thursday - end of Sept 2017. The tour will include: Pont du Gard, Arles, Les Baux, and Nice. I will have 7 days (following Thursday night) to get back to Paris for return flight.
What would be a good trip? I have not seen Monaco, Antibes, Cannes, Marseilles, Aix en Provence, Vaison la Romaine. I would not mind going to Orange again. Prefer TGV rail over driving, but could rent a car for short trips.

Gordes, Roussillon, Lourmarin or Menerbes for a day in Provence  (3 Answers)

Hello, I'm spending 5 day in Provence at the end of May. I'll be in Avignon for the first 2 days and the last 2 days in St Remy. In between I want to stay at a quaint and cozy village within the area. My research shows the above as the best pics. I'm on my honeymoon so I'm looking for the most beautiful villages the Provence has to offer with some great food and wine. Would love your suggestions on which place to choose. Thanks!

6 Days in the South of France  (20 Answers)

Hey guys,

We're honeymooning in France for 10 days. Spending the first 4 in Paris and want to see the best of the South in the remaining days. Priority for us is: Monaco, Provence and the best of the quintessential small towns the South is known for and some nice vineyards on the way would be great too.

I've been researching for a while and am very confused if I should be doing Marseille over Avignon or Aix or just stay in Nice and go around as much as possible. I intend on taking the train from Paris and then renting a car to be able to travel freely in the South. Any and all suggestions based on what we want to do would be appreciated. Thanks!

Where to holiday inn south of France?  (1 Answer)

Im looking for a nice beach, culture, restaurants, bars, buzzy but not too much that I can't relax. But a place that's chic too.
I'm in my early 30's
Would like to experience glitz and glammer of st tropez but don't wish to stay there - just to visit.
Also I want to be able to visit Nice but as its a city and the beac is rocky, I don't wish to stay there.
Travelling in July or August - Any ideas?
Looked at Antibis but read it lacks chicness / poshness

What foods can I bring from the US to France  (26 Answers)

This is going to sound like a totally crazy questions, because why on earth would someone want to bring food into a country that has such amazing food?! I get it, My husband is vegetarian and I am pescatarian, and I happen to work in the natural food industry and get a lot of free food. Since we will be on a tight budget for the three months we will be in Provence, a few cans of really good tuna and a bunch of protein bars could be helpful. I also haven't been able to find a good vegan protein powder or my dog's food available in France. He gets raw, freeze dried beef nuggets, so I am wondering if that will be a problem taking into the country. I would also like to bring along some of his favorite dog treats. Does anyone know of a website that lists what I can't take into the country?

Suggestions for itinerary in June with kids  (5 Answers)

Hi everyone!
We are a family of 4 ( 2 kids: 5 and 7) and will have 10 days for a drive from Nice to Barcelona. We were thinking of spending 3 nights in Nice and around, and then renting a car and heading west. Our focus is France, we will be only flying out of Barcelona, and not planning to spend any time there this time.
We wouldn't mind splitting our time between two ( or 3?) french towns (Nice and ?) so we don't feel too rushed. Any suggestions are welcome!
Thank you!

Crossing borders from France into Spain and Italy  (14 Answers)

My husband and I will be staying near Carpentras for three months with our 15 pound pup. We will have a car and plan to take a few road trips during our stay. We would like to visit both Spain and Italy by car and are wondering what the process is like crossing borders. Since we will have our dog with us, will we be stopped somewhere to make sure we have all the necessary paperwork showing shots, etc? We will have all of this covered for our stay in France, but want to make sure we don't get stopped from entering other countries with him.

Looking for a place to stay in Provence for 3 months  (41 Answers)

My husband and I (both in our mid 30's) want to spend 3 months in Provence with our small dog. We want to be outside of a city center near vineyards, but be close enough to walk, bike, or take a short bus ride into a major city as we won't have a car. I was thinking maybe near Avignon, but I would love to hear other suggestions. Our budget is $1000 USD per month. Is this realistic? Also, is France pretty dog friendly? Thanks!

Car rental  (7 Answers)

when renting a car do most people choose to include the CDW Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Protection that is offered? I haven't checked with my local insurance company yet to see if they cover anything while abroad but just started looking at cars tonight and was wondering.

So many little towns to choose from! Itinerary Help Needed!  (16 Answers)

Planning a trip to Provence and Cote D'Azur for June 2016. We want to limit the number of hotels we have to transfer to and are open to renting a car if the trains/buses are not covenient to see many of the small towns on our list. We are planning on two weeks but can extend if needed. We would like to visit Isle Sur La Sorgue, Uzes, Menerbes, Eze, Menton. Cap Ferrat as well as Nice, Aix, Grasse and Antibes. My questions are: 1. Best airport to fly into and out of? 2.Which two areas would be best to centralize ourselves for the towns/villages we want to see? 3. Is a car the best way to do the traveling or are the trains/buses just as good? I am just starting out and researching all the different forums and trying to place the areas on a map. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

4 day Provence Itinerary  (8 Answers)

My husband and I (both early 30's) Have 4 full days (Tues-Sat) in Provence and will be staying in Maubec with a car. We have never been and I am feeling overwhelmed by all of the places to see. I think we want to go to: Marseille & Cassis, Arles, Avignon, Lourmarin, St Remy, Gordes, L'isle sur la Sorgue. We would love to visit markets and find beautiful places to picnic, and maybe do some light hiking. I read Pont du Gard is a nice place to go, and maybe Gorges du Verdon but it looks like It might be too far. Which of these places can we bundle together and see in one day and do any need a full day? Any specific activities worth booking? The only thing scheduled so far is a Truffle Hunting tour for a couple hours Wednesday evening. We don't want to fill our schedule up too much, and want to make sure there is plenty of time to just enjoy the beauty around us so if we need to remove any of these places which do we cut out?

Thanks so much for your help!

Best perched villages  (6 Answers)

Bonjour! Any suggestions on the "best" villages-perchés within convenient driving distance of Nice / Cannes?

By "best" I mean: very scenic, scenically located (panoramic views), good lunch options (perhaps restaurant with view; or good charcuterie / boulangerie), historically or culturally interesting.

Ones that appear to fit the bill are: (roughly east of Nice) Eze, La Turbie, Peillon and Luceram, (roughly west of Nice) Le Broc, Biot, St Paul de Vence, Tourettes-sur-Loup and Gourdon. Any comments re these, or ones I've missed?

Time-wise, (and driving either up or down the coast) how many perched villages would it be sensible to visit in one day?

Any practical advice re visiting perched villages?

Location near beach and mountains, Cote d'Azur  (12 Answers)

We are planning a 3 week summer holiday in France (August-September) and I am thinking somewhere between Nice and Menton/Ventimiglia (Italy).

During our holidays we usually spend 1 day relaxing at the beach and the next day hiking, so close proximity to the beach and being close to the main roads into the mountains is a must.

Accommodation at walking distance of the beach would be great, but alternatively a place more into the mountains/mainland, about 30 min driving from the beach, would be acceptable as well since we'll have a car.

A sandy beach is appreciated but not a must.

We don't care for nightlife and prefer a quiet place over busy city (such as Nice).

We just need a simple apartment with kitchen, and somewhere to sit outside like a balcony or garden....We won't be spending too much time in the apartment anyway.

Do you have any suggestions on the best locations to stay?

Thanks for your time!

Touring Provence  (12 Answers)

We are planning to tour Provence for several days from a central base.
Which town/city would you recommend based both on location convenience as well as the qualities of the town itself?
How would you recommend touring Provence; by car, bus, other?
Any specific accomodation recommendations would also be welcomed.

Provence with Kids  (8 Answers)

I am seeking your advise about choosing location base for exploring Provence region for family with 2 kids (4 and 2 year old) during last 2 weeks of September.

Interested in relatively small town (about couple of thousands of people) that will provide kids services such as public pool, playgrounds, supermarket, toys shop and will be close to hiking areas. Mainly required activity is hiking with kids couple of hours then enjoying life rest of the day :)

It looks like there are not too many choices so I would like to ask your opinion in order to try and narrow it down.

Thank you so much, Slava

Provence - Avignon - St Remi - Cassis  (6 Answers)

Hello, we are a couple mid 30's traveling to Provence middle of August. We have full three days three nights and will have a car. We are planning to arrive to Avignon, and would like to see as much of the surrounding areas as possible. I understand that Provence area is large and three days doesn't cut it. The points of interest for us would be St Remi, Nimes, Arlington, Cassis. I believe all of these are fairly close, however for three day travel still far. What would you recommend as the top experiences i.e. are lavender fields a must see (given the timing in mid August, i believe their season is in July). Is there anything in these towns that stands out different from other places. (like for example in Albi/Carcassone those magnificent churches are very memorable and impressive). Is there a consortium on few places/things that are a must in the area? We are flexible in stopping by in different hotels while driving among these places. We love beautiful architecture, however, if we get a chance to see beautiful nature we are interested as well. Thank you in advance.

Visiting the lavender fields  (3 Answers)

My wife and I are considering a trip to Provence next summer with one of the main considerations being seeing the blooming lavender fields. I have some input from a friend who has been there and suggests St. Remy de Provence as our base. I understand that the peak of the season is from mid-June to mid-July. I just wanted to see what ideas others of you may have about it.

Too late to see Lavender?  (7 Answers)

I heard someone saying that he went to see lavender fields a few days ago in Provence but didn't see anything as it was too late and he only got to see lavender at the lavender museum. Could it be possible that all lavender has been harvested already?! From what I've read, harvesting only starts from mid July. If you believe/know there are still lavender fields to see, could you tell me where exactly they are? Many thanks in advance!

Nice to Toulouse. Any must see stops/detours?  (6 Answers)

We are driving from Nice to Toulouse to meet with other friends and continue our journey to Spain. Initially we were planning to drive straight to Toulouse but now we realized that we have about 2.5 days to complete the drive to Toulouse. Are there any must see stops/restaurants/cheese houses/detour trips/side trips on the way that are not to be missed? We are already planning to cover Montpellier and probably Nimes on our way. We are also considering driving through Parc naturel régional du Verdon.

Baby Back ribs in Cannes Area  (2 Answers)

For years, we have tried to find good baby back ribs (American style) in the Cannes area. Farfalla was the best by any standards, but they closed in 2011. Jimmy's in Valbonne closed in 2012. Stars n Bars in Monte Carlo is awful. Any other suggestions? Has anyone tried La Mandarine in Mandelieu-La Napoule? Perhaps someplace relatively new?
