I am looking for some hotels not too far from Pebble Beach during the US Open in June but hoping not to pay too much since it is a gift for my father for his 60th birthday. We will be flying him in to Pebble Beach plus tickets and looking for something reasonable in pricing even though I'm sure hotels will jack up the price because of the event. I'm sure he will be willing to drive 30 min to an hour. Just seems ridiculous to pay over350 for a 2 star motel. I'm not familiar with Pebble Beach and the surrounding area so any help and info is much appreciated. I would like to book asap since prices of motel and hotels look like they've already hit the roof.
Pebble Beach is on the ocean between Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea, once presided over by Clint Eastwood as Carmel's major. Pebble Beach is as close to Carmel as the length of the golfcourse. Monterey is just a couple of miles up the road on the north side. There are of course several hotels in Carmel proper, and a number of hotels in Monterey. The first link is to google maps, so you can see the lay of the land and hotel locations, and the second one is for the actual hotels:
About 30 miles east of Pebble Beach is the good size farming town of Salinas
Number of hotels there:
There are many sights to be seen in the area, if you are so inclined. Check out places like Monterey and Carmel of course, and then, Cannery Row, Monterey Bay Aquarium (a must see), 17 Mile Drive, and of course if you have time, take a drive down south on Hwy 1, through Big Sur, - and if you have a little more time, a t the southern end of Big Sur, is San Simeon with the Hearst Castle. If you cannot go that far, check out the virtual tour on the website asn see what you are missing.....d;o)
There are a number of other things to see and do, but this will give yopu a good start.
This should give you plenty to start with. Review and research the sites above, figure out the time frame, and when you have a better idea of the structure of your trip, - come on back and we will help iron out the details. I used to do five star tours through this area, so I am fairly familiar with it.
...sorry the 17 Mile Drive website link is corrupted. Here it is again
