excursions from Muscat  (8 Answers)

Hi there, i will be in Oman for 4 nights , have flights and accommodation sorted, but I do not seem to find a tour company that offers reasonably priced daily excursions from Muscat. I travel alone and would like to join a group excursions rather than paying for a guide for myself only (too expensive and boring)
Any advice greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks

Driving from Muscat to Niswa via the Rustaq loop through wadi bani Awf?  (1 Answer)

Has anyone driven from Muscat to Niswa through wadi bani Awf? What were the conditions like? Was it really scary? I am going to hire a 4wd but am not a very confident driver. The scenery looks stunning so I want to drive but am concerned about how difficult it will be.
Thanks

Joint Tourist Visa Facility between Dubai and Oman  (4 Answers)

I am a tourist arriving in Dubai for two days, and then plan to travel overland to Oman. I have read that i may not have to pay for a tourist visa as i am from the UK (list 1), because I have recently received a Dubai visa. I have found that this is definitely possible if i fly into Oman from Dubai, as i am going direct and would have a return ticket. But, i have not found any information to suggest that i can go overland and still not pay an entry fee. Can i still take advantage of my Dubai Visa and joint tourist facility if i travel overland?

top priorities in Oman  (8 Answers)

Hi Everyone,

I have read through the forum, thanks for all the info, plenty of good guidance here. As far as I can see, the most important things to see in Oman are Muscat, the coast from Muscat to around Sur, Wadi Bani Khalid, Jebel Akhdar, Rustaq and Jebel Shams. And of course turtle watching and beaches. Does this look like a shortlist of the most important things to see, or have I missed out a "must-see"? I have around 4 or 5 days available to visit Oman, and I know this won't really be enough to do justice to the whole country, but I want to at least see the most unique things in Oman.

Any comments or suggestions?

Travel to Musandam and Muscat with a 3 yr old  (4 Answers)

Hi, am planning to travel from Dubai to Khasab on early Jan 2016 and would like to get advice on the following -
1. Where can I find reputable companies to hire in Dubai to drive (one way) to Khasab and stop along Sharjah and one or two other attractions along the way?
2. Is it true that ferry to Muscat is sometimes cancelled? If cancelled, is it easy to fly to Muscat via Oman Air or will have to spend an extra night? Is the 5 hour ferry worth the time to Muscat?

Here's my general plan
Fly into Dubai -> Khasab (1 Night) -> Muscat for 3 nights -> head home

Thank you VTers!

Question to Westerner Travellers who Explored Oman  (5 Answers)

How easy would it be for an older woman alone to travel around the country? Can one see the country by taking public buses? And about how long would you say it would take to see Oman without rushing? Is there relatively cheap accomodation like youth hostels? Would love to hear from people who've done it.

Driving in Oman  (6 Answers)

Hi there
I'll be glad to hear your opinion of driving condition in Oman, chiefly in Muscat. I don't speak/read Arabic so that I suppose it would be not so easy for me. Any warnings, tips would be invaluable.
I have already rented a 2D car for driving in Muscat and surroundings, so I exclude a desert adventure with this car.
thank you

Custom law  (1 Answer)

Hi there
I've searched quite a lot websites looking for custom rules and the more I read the more I am confused. I found a lot of discrepancies in relation to bringing in some goods as alkohol, food and so on... I'll meet there the expat people who feel lack of some European delicacy so it would be nice to fetch them this and that, not infringing the law.
In addition in my way is also the UAE, so their custom law must be taken into consideration as well.

Could someone be so kind and shed light on this problem.

Any advice from an experienced traveler?
Thank you

Staying in Muscat  (4 Answers)

Hi VT gurus
Next month I am taking a challenge and go (alone) to Muscat. I intend to stay there for couple of days and take a few one/two days trips outside the city.

I have a few questions.
1. Can anyone recommend me a decent hotel close to the city center, which does not ruin my budget, around $100 per night. Do I ask for moon searching for a hotel with a small piece of greenery around?
2. Can anyone point me out a reliable tour agency for my trips? ---- prices?
3.Is it a good idea to rent a car and driving alone? --- personal and traffic (whithin/out the city) safety?
4. Is my Polish driving licence valid in Oman? Or I need international one.
5. Is something worth seeing around that is not widely known,a less touristy spot but still interesting ( including scenery)
6. Is a public transport in Muscat as bad as is said ?
7. What is avarage cost of modest living in Muscat?
I would be extremely greatful for your response. :))
