Travel to Musandam and Muscat with a 3 yr old

Hi, am planning to travel from Dubai to Khasab on early Jan 2016 and would like to get advice on the following -
1. Where can I find reputable companies to hire in Dubai to drive (one way) to Khasab and stop along Sharjah and one or two other attractions along the way?
2. Is it true that ferry to Muscat is sometimes cancelled? If cancelled, is it easy to fly to Muscat via Oman Air or will have to spend an extra night? Is the 5 hour ferry worth the time to Muscat?

Here's my general plan
Fly into Dubai -> Khasab (1 Night) -> Muscat for 3 nights -> head home

Thank you VTers!

Sounds a great plan! However it's not very common to find a car hire company that will do a 1-way hire to Musandam. You can ask around and maybe you will be lucky but it's a question that gets asked a lot and so far I haven't heard of anyone who has managed it.

Maybe someone else can give you better news!

I'm not sure about the ferry being cancelled and I haven't made that journey so can't comment on whether it's worth the trip, but if you want to fly, you'd need to book well in advance because the flights get booked up quickly - especially if the ferry was cancelled!

We had a driver who drove us from Dubai to Khasab and helped us with border formalities. This was organized by a tour operator.
To be honest ... there isn't a lot to see underway.

After two days we flew from Khasab to Muscat on Oman Air. It's a short flight of one hour and fifteen minutes and it costed only the equivalent of 40 euros.

You would have to try private tour company to get to Kasab from Dubai

Fly from Khasab to Muscat

Quite frankly we enjoyed Khasab more than Muscat

Here is my little page about Khasab, with some pics
