What's the chepest way to get to Novosibirsk?

I was thinking of flying into St Petersburg and then taking a train to Novosobirsk since the airfar there is around500 compared to almost 1,000 to fly into Novosobirsk. I would take the trans railway 3rd class. which is 178 or something like that. Thoughts?

Novosibirsk

Thanks! I would leave whenever it's the cheapest time to go. I'd stay there a week or two.

I agree with Tyrker- Andrew: the original poster wants to go New York-Novosibirsk and back. The Aeroflot deal looks perfect for that reason. It is a small difference (100-something USD) but way more comfortable (and less days "on the road, eh track").

And...platzkart-3rd class-for such a long stretch....not really my cup of tea...

We did the Trans Siberian Railway journey 2 years ago: Moscow - Novosibirsk and back again after 5 days. (For the solar eclips in 2008) We loved it. We had 2nd class trips, including meals, in 4-person cabin, so sharing with 2 other pax, who varied along the way. 46 hours each way. From St Petersburg would add some 6 hours I think.
Other people we met travelled in 3rd class, carriages without seperate cabins, and they also found it very do-able.
I suppose it all depends if you just want to get there fast, or if you are interested in the TSR experience. It's a tranquil way of travel, meeting people, and seeing some things on the way. Lots of forests. Stops in cities just short, but you can go out on the platform.
Good luck with desiding which way to go. Novosibirst is a nice city.

I do not know the cheapest way to get to Novosibirsk but I can tell you the cheapest way to get out of it! RUN !

Kidding, of course, but Novosibirsk is the most boring city I have ever been to in Russia. They have a very nice opera and ballet house and nothing else. Would recommend to see Irkutsk & Lake Baikal if you have an opportunity.

From NYC? Or from Saint-Petersburg?
If NYC, round trip NYC-Novosibirsk-NYC will cost around 880$
