Hi, Can anyone give me information on the 5 day tour by Hotel Bus from York to Whitby? Am not sure that it is still operating. Tku in advance.
We're currently in York, until Friday. We'd like to walk a little in the Dales next weekend, but don't have a car. We can get to Skipton or Harrogate by train/bus, and then (I think) arrange to get to the Dales, but which town would be best? Or would anyone recommend Nother? We walked in the Cotswolds all last week. Love all the walking paths here.
We want to visit the North Yorkshire Moors to go hiking and are wondering when is the best time of the year for it? For us it would be the best in late March but we are thinking that the nature might not be that great that early during the year. An alternative would be in June. What do you think? When does the heather bloom, when do the trees get leaves? Would you recommend going in March?
Thanks a lot for the advise
I have to spend a couple of nights in Guisborough & wondered which of the following is the better option: The Fox Inn OR Three Fiddles Hotels.
Both are virtually the same price - but recommendations are always useful.
Thanks in advance for any information.
We will be passing through the North York Moors on our way to Whitby
and would like to do some hiking around Helmsley. Is there anywhere we can store our luggage while we do some walking? Lockers in a bus station, perhaps?
Also what would be some walking trails aound 2-3 hours in length?
Thank you so much for any help you can give us!!
Hello. We have let a cottage in West Burton, Wensleydale, for a week this August. I have traveled through the area, but I have little sense of the shopping options (I stayed in Ripon and toured the dales from there). Does anyone have any suggestions for food shopping in/near Wensleydale? We would be especially interested in good quality prepared or semi-prepared foods, à la Marks & Spencer, so that there can be less time spent cooking and more time enjoying the dales. We are vegetarians and we do cook, but on vacation we would ideally like to find quality shortcuts if possible. Not looking for places to eat out (unless there is something not to be missed). Many thanks in advance. --Spencer
We will be traveling beginning next Saturday for a short visit and would like recommendations on what to see/do that are available in mid-March. We have visited this glorious area before, so we are looking for other than the major tourist sites.
We're staying at Hazelwood Castle, a B&B near Ambleside and another B&B near Askrigg during our short trip.
We hope to visit some of the breweries near Tadcaster. Do we need to make any sort of reservation for a tour? We had to do that when we visit Shepherd Neame brewery in Faversham, Kent a couple of years ago.
Thank you for any assistance!
Has anyone stayed on this farm near Pickering. Have booked a week in September so hope it is ok.
Any ideas what the selfcatering accomodation is like in the bay? Maybe white owl appartments or high sea view?
I'm planning a trip to Scarborough in July with my wife & 11 month old daughter. This will be my first visit back since many happy trips there as a boy.
I'm trying to find a 4 or 5 star hotel, preferably with sea views for my stay. Are there any luxury hotels of this class in Scarborough?? If there are I can't seem to find any on-line.
Can anyone offer help or suggestions?
Thanks in advance for anyone who takes the time to reply.
My daughter, a college student, wants to explore the area that the book 'The Secret Garden' was written about on the Yorkshire Moors, where would you advise her to go? Are there areas that remind anyone of the scenes from this novel, and are there youth hostels or B and B's on the Moors for her to stay in?
Having added Keld to my "travel pages" just now, I also found an alternative called Keld Houses. As I am of an investigative nature, I had a look at where that might be and selected it, then clicked "places nearby". I found it to be close to Pateley Bridge but to my great disbelief there was then a "Groszbritannien" in the places nearby list!
Why is there a German spelling of Great Britain but with a Polish "z" added to it in a Yorkshire Dales list of villages??? There is of course no such thing in my AA Complete Atlas of Britain (admittedly full of left out villages all over Britain). What is this??? :)))
Having our base in Richmond for a few days, we will have days packed with Dales sights, both old favourites and those we've missed during previous visits, but these often mean hiking in a dale for some hours, visits to castles and just soaking up the atmosphere in Aysgarth and other villages. Is there anything specific to do with children that I might have overlooked before I had any?
Also, are there any child friendly pubs in Richmond (or Aysgarth/Middleham/Reeth...) with beer gardens, family lounges or whatever so that we can catch up on months of much missed pub grub and Yorkshire brew again! :)))
I know there is a monthly/quarterly/annual Metro pass which can be obtained for travel within West Yorkshire but slightly frustratingly South Milford is the next stop on the line outside of West Yorkshire. As I will be travelling from S. Milford to Leeds on a daily basis is there a pass / discounted fare options which is available that will cover the journey?
A friend and I hope to travel from Newcastle to York in a few weeks time. Can anyone advise us, how much a return train/bus fare would be approx, travelling in the evening time and is it cheaper to take the bus or train? Many thanks in advance for your help. Hilary
First of all thanks to everyone who has already been so helpful answering my questions. I've been to london but not to york, now I am going to york for six months so its a bit daunting. I am going from January to July. Im thinking about what I should pack or buy for my trip, what do you guys think I should pack, what is essential for going to york?
Also--I am arriving at manchester airport, is the airport far from the train station where i can catch a train to york?
And finally---How expensive is york? Is it about the same as london?
Thanks in advance
I am going to be living in one of york universities for a couple of terms and I wanted to know how safe york is, how friendly the people are towards foreigners and people of color etc. thanks for your help
AM HOPING TO GO TO KNARESBOROUGH NORTH YORKSHIRE IN EARLY SEPTEMBER CAN ANYONE RECOMEND A CHEAP PLACE TO STAY, PREFERABLY SELF CATERING. THANKS.
I'll be based out of Northallerton for a visit in June and am looking for tips on roadtrips and walks. I enjoy local flavor as much as possible and enjoy pubs - live music and dancing too, walking, hiking, & shopping. I'll be driving as well so trips around are good too.
I am going to stay in Grimsby in June-July and would like to make new friends in England.
Hey! Has anyone stayed at the Whitby or York YHA? Would you recommend either one? Thanks :) Cassie
Hi! Can anyone suggest a good website on the Yorkshire Moors and Whitby - or just some pros and cons for this area - will be visiting in August this year. Thanks! :) Cassie
