Hi we want to visit both North and South Carolina
we will be heading down towards Miami.
I want to include Wilmington, Myrtle Beach
how many days are needed and what other places are good to stop at
My mother is 85 & visually impared & needs round trip transportation from Boone, NC to Southport, NC with the fewest stops. can anyone point me in the right direction to find low cost services for seniors?
What is the most recommended week(s) in the autumn to drive along the Cherohala Skyway (particularly for the foliage)? I've read last week of October? Also, can most any rental car with automatic drive be driven on the Skyway?
We are from UK. Last year we drove the northern part of the Blue Ridge mountain trail getting to the North Carolina border. We have 8 days mid October and would like to complete the trail as well as see some more of this beautiful region. The challenge is that one of us is coming from Washington and one from New York and we both need to return to New York to fly home. We seem to be able to get reasonable direct flights to Atlanta and wondered if we can do a circular trip from there including the Blue Ridge trail in one direction. Is this doable in 8 days allowing us time to enjoy scenery and at least one 2 night stopover. We don't want to drive interstate and love little quirky towns and accommodation. Is there a better located airport we should try for? Any ideas of routes we could take? Great Smokey mountains? Your recommendations much appreciated.
Is anyone willing to take a roadtrip across the USA (from North Carolina to Los Angeles) from May til June?
We are hoping to visit the Georgia & Carolina's next May. We are hoping to fly into Atlanta and stay for two nights, then we plan to drive to Savannah for 4 nights, after which we plan to stay on the coast around Charleston (SC).
After this We are planning to spend around 6 -7 days in NC. I was thinking about driving up the coast into NC from Charleston and staying on the NC coast for two day. After this we plan to travel across NC to the Great Smoky Mountains stopping off somewhere in between. Does anyone have any tips where to stay for 2 nights on the NC coast, 1 night between the coast and the smoky mountains, and finally somewhere close or in the Great Smoky Mountain where we plan to stay for 3 nights.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
We are planning a trip next year to take in the Georgia and the Carolinas. My initial plan is Fly to Atlanta, then drive to savannah and then to Charleston SC for a week on the coast. After that we woant to take a few days in NC, can anyone recommend any places to visit? I would like to stay near the smokey mountains for 2 days or so. So anywhere between Charleston & the smokey mountains??
Also I may potentially visit west Virginia, as we intend to fly back from Charlotte.
Your advise would be greatly appreciated.
Hi all! My boyfriend and I are planning a ~3 week long roadtrip in the South this summer. We're flying down to Chapel Hill and taking a car from there (we're starting in Chapel Hill because I have family there who are willing to lend us their car). We have 20 days altogether, and are a bit overwhelmed. We want to see a lot of places, and my boyfriend's willing to drive for long stretches at once (and overnight), but we also don't want to overload our schedule. How far Southwest do you think is reasonable? My boyfriend grew up in the South but has never really traveled Southwest, so if we could make it into the New Mexico area that would be awesome. But we also realize that might be too far. We were thinking of doing a loop, so going as far South and West as possible and then heading back to Chapel Hill a little more North (i.e. going through Kentucky).
Things we want to do/see:
-beautiful countryside number 1--we want to hike, a beach is also always great, maybe even camping
-maybe horseback riding? And other outdoorsy activities...
-visit culturally vibrant cities (New Orleans etc.)
I've heard that since we're going to be in Chapel Hill, Asheville is a must. I'm also thinking we should hit up Savannah and New Orleans? If we do make it as far West as New Mexico (assuming we went through New Orleans first) how should we navigate Texas (i.e. what cities are worth making a detour to visit)? Is it unrealistic to think we could get that far West though?
Any thoughts would be appreciated. We're planning on nailing down some accommodation reservations, and then figuring it out other times.
Recommendations where to fly into? How to get to my end destination once I arrive? Best area to visit and stay? Am interested in private house with pool, and beach.
I heard my mother use to go to north carolina and be minutes from the beach and minutes from the mountains could someone please give me some ideas because I would really like to go visit this summer
We're planning ten days in Southern Utah to see the 5 Natl. Parks and several other sites. Can cars be rented in Vegas and driven into Southern Utah? I assume so but can't find confirmation on any rental car web site.
Hi. My name is Wilson, I from Colombia.
If I wanted to travel, with my wife, to North Carolina (USA), What would be the best way to travel? What are the turistic cities in North Carolina? What are the cheaper hoteles in this cities? What are the tourist sites in this state?
Travelling into Atlanta in April. Thought about the following itinerary. Atlanta to Asheville through Blue Ridge Parkway and two nights in Asheville. One night Myrtle Beach or Charleston and then two nights Savannah. Question is Asheville worth the trip and is the drive nice. Second, Myrtle beach or Charleston bearing in mind I am in Savannah for two nights. Am I missing any really interesting small towns. Any help much appreciated. Thanks, PB Dancing.
I'm looking for someplace to take my wife for our first anniversary. We just have a weekend to ourselves, last in September, and wanted one last weekend at the beach before winter comes in. Could any of you recommend a place to stay (before I've only camped out there, so anything with walls is unknown to me). Something not terribly expensive, still a student here, but not a Motel 6 if you know what I mean.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Hi All, I am in NC for a few weeks, I have been reading GrandmaR's pages on Outerbanks and getting really tempted to go there. I currently stay at Mooresville. Is a long weekend a bad time to visit Outerbanks? Will it be very crowded?
Hi! I am road tripping to Tennessee yet again, I take 81S the whole way and usually drive straight through about 16hrs from Connecticut. I am looking to take it a little easier this time and have always dreamed of traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway. I am looking to spend a day on the parkway and stop somewhere along the way to spend the night. Does anyone have any suggestions as to my most efficient route? Suggestions to my start and end points? I am open to switching between the parkway and 81S. What are some sections of the parkway that I should not miss? I want to make some stops along the way to enjoy the scenery. I think I'm definitely interested in stopping to visit Mabry Mill. I am quite the nature enthusiast and explorer. I am also open to the option of driving through the N. Carolina section of the parkway to Gatlinburg as I am familiar with the area and could travel west into Tennessee that way. Also any suggestions where to stay overnight? I will be traveling the first week of April. Thank you so much for any feedback!
What are the best small towns in eastern NC to retire to?
I will be in Raleigh for the next 2 months and am dying to do some exploring. Public transport seems to be a bit limited to the more remote places like the Outer Banks and the mountains. I don't have a car and don't drive, so hiring one is out of the question.
Does anyone have any advice on either using public transport to these destinations or a good Tour bus company. I don't usually enjoy organised trips/tours but I am really desperate to get out and see stuff!
Hi to all, I am going to louisburg,NC this coming april for a relative visit. We have been staying in Days inn, sandalwood over the years, but I am wondering if there is any other hotel that is closer to this place since our relative is just nearby with Days inn hotel? I want to stay to a little better and comfortable hotel than this. Thanx...
I am planning on taking a small vacation (about 4 - 5 days) to NC in June. I am planning on going to Mt Airy for about a day and then heading to the beach. I am not sure what beach to go to. I need one that will be close, but I would really like a small town kind of atmosphere without crowds of people. A friend of mine reccommended Beaufort but it looks pretty far. I would love to see a light house. My 15 year old daughter will be going with me, so some attractions she might enjoy. Wild horses would also be great! Any suggestions?
We'd like to spend some days in Asheville and the Smoky Mountains in mid-April. So far, I found very contradicting info about the weather. Average high temperatures going from 50 to 80 degrees. What can we really expect? Showers? Fog? Or a pleasant Spring?
Sorry, the date we are going to be in North Carolina is Feb. 6 - 12 of 2011. My bad.
My husband and I are going to be in Charleston from Feb. 6 to 12 2010. I am wondering if it is advisable to rent a car and drive northward along the ocean and take the two ferrys onto the barrier island with the intent of reaching Kill Devil Hills. What is the weather and temp. usually like at this time of year? Are we looking at heavy winds and cold weather? Should we wait and do the drive in Spring or summer instead some time? Should we drive over to Asheville instead? Thanks for any advice.
Hello Fellow Vter's.
It's been a long time since I've posted a question for the pros.
I'm planning a 2-3 day fall color trip to Western NC. in 1-2 weeks.
Are there (I'm sure there is) any restaurant in the region that has
not only good food/service but great views of the mountains, valleys
and etc? Thank you for your export advice.
I'm thinking around Bryson City, Cherokee, Sylvia, Waynesville,
Fontana Lake Area, even towards Brevard and Rosman
I.ve been to Highlands and Helen, Ga.
We are planning for a trip to Hooker falls in Dupont State Forest from Charlotte. We selected this falls considering the fact, our kids can swim and bath. Can you please give your opinion going to this place. Is there any better falls you can suggest in North Carolina where kids can swim and bath. Also safe and enjoyable?
My family is planning on relocating to North Carolina next spring. Currently we are students finishing up our education in new professions for us - I am a Medical Assistant, and he will be a Network Administrator. We have decided to move to North Carolina, bu have not decided on the town. We will not have jobs when we arrive, so that will be the most important thing. My question is "Charlotte or Raleigh? Thanks.
I'm traveling to Gastonis and was wondering what there is to do in the area? Has anyone heard of the whitewater rafting reserve
I'm planning a short trip to NC for memorial day. Will be there for a bout 10 days. Will really appreciate if anyone can tell me what clothes to carry. I am travelling from outside the US.
Two adults, 7yr old and small dog want to get out of TX heat July/Aug. Taking Toyota Corolla, tent and minimal gear. Looking for higher elevations, moderate hiking, swimming, berry picking, organic farms, bike/canoe rentals, occasional access to smaller towns, local library/theatre etc.... Prefer "home base" in one place for a few weeks, rather than moving every few days, so looking for max. 3 areas. Your suggestions? Much appreciated.
hi , i am planning to come to NC for about 2 weeks and i was hoping to find some information on sky diving. are there any places that allow tandem jumps and does any one know the cost of a tandem jump? also, a rifle range where you can shoot some air rifels or even actual ones?
