We will be driving in from Martinborough to Wellington and stay over night in a place convenient to catch the ferry to Picton the next morning.
As much as possible we would like to avoid driving through the city and congested areas. Yet be able to explore the city either by foot or by taking public transportation. I looked up the Travelodge hotel, seems to be central enough and close enough for the ferry, but have no idea about driving cond.
Looking for advice...
Hi "wellnessyoga" - by "Welland" I assume you mean "Wellington?"
I suggest, if you are worrying about driving into Wellington, that you stay the night in Petone, which is only a 10 minute drive from the ferry terminal, except in morning peak hour traffic, when it takes 20 minutes. I suggest, as an example the Foreshore Motor Lodge, [original link].
It would be a shame if you don't go into Wellington at all, as it is a vibrant place to visit. But I realise, you can't see everywhere! You could, of course, catch a train into Wellington from Petone, if you have time to do that.
All the best for the planning!
Yes Rogers, I did mean Wellington. Petone sounds like a good area for us as on the drive to town we would be coming through there any how ! Thanks for your advice, will follow it!
