A tourist or foreigner, can I buy a cell phone prepaid plan , for a two months stay?

I couldn´t reach a response for the question above, thru,AT&T site..The site is directed to american consumers only... So what to do, to make my cell phone usable in the states?  Any answer will be fully appreciated, as can´t solve this problem, here ,in Brazil. Thank you very much.

AT&T stores offer a pay as you go sim that can be used. A friend from Mexico just used one during her stay in the US.

Don't know what bands phones use in Brazil but if you have a triband or quadband phone and it's unlocked, you can get the ATT SIM card mentioned above. I use it and you just buy minutes. When you run out, you add more time either on the phone or your computer.

Yes, I have used it to during my stay at NYC, too.
I guess it is the most practical option if you don't want to use, or don't have, your own country's provider roaming service.

Just to add, that this sim will give you an American phone number and is usually are valid for 6 months

Didn't you already ask this question about a month ago?

Plenty of options, including T-Mobile, Virgin Mobile, and MetroPCS, as I replied to your earlier question.

Hi. This was posted on another thread by jonellis and you may find it useful. This is coming from Europe but it should work equally well coming from Brazil. Here's the quote and it is regarding someone who had an AT&T mobile already:

"if a person from Ireland or UK has an unlocked phone in their country, they can come to N. America, go to AT&T shop, and they will give you free a SIM card which includes a US Phone number as long as you buy some time from them."

Here's the whole thread but it's a long one. [original link]

I agree with Beausoleil post.

If you have any network locked phone, you can unlock your phone with a help of your service provider or else try to buy an unlocking service from any one of the online unlocking service provider like [original link] They will provide an unlocking service for Blackberry mobile models only.If you have other than Blackberry phone use [original link]
