Hi all, The misses and me are heading to New Orleans from Australia tomorow. We need to hire a car on the 17th and drop it off at Nashville on the 22nd. The cheapest i can find is $275 plus $300 one way fee (au dollars).
Surely theres a cheaper alternative, it seems excessively expensive.
Any tips on where to go or what to see on the way is also welcome. (misses wants to go via jackson then over to birmingham)

What is the best way to get from La Quinta inn at the airport to the Carnival Cruse port.
We are looking for a place in the NO area that would do a hair wrap or a braid with beads for my daughter. She wants it as a souvenir from our trip. Usually in Florida, you find people doing this on along a beach boardwalk. Anyone know if there's a place to get this done in NO? Thanks!!
Help! I'm traveling to New Orleans with my 14 year old son in two weeks. While we have plenty of great activities planned for daytime, I'm stumped on activities for the evening. I've already planned a cemetery tour... but have four more evenings to plan. Besides dinner, any suggestions for what to do in the evenings? Any help would be appreciated. We are staying in the FQ and do not have a car.
Planning getaway during Easter holidays. Have few destination in mind, and New Orleans in on the list. Now my plan is to travel with my 9 yr old dauther , who is well travelled little person, so long flight is no problem, however as I am looking into hotel/inns/homestay I get confused. Too many choices and I don't know what to choose! By popularity Garden district and French quarter seems to be the place we should stay. As I am single woman travelling with child , security is my priority saying that the hotels in those two areas are bit steep. So now question s do I choose hotel in those two areas or somewhere else? I don't mind if it's not right in the center, as long as it's safe and has good street car/bus connections to the French quarter and things on the tourist map I don't mind 20 min street car ride.. We are planning a week long visit. Any ideas? Thank you for your input !
My sister & I are going to New Orleans for 10 days over Halloween this year. We're staying in the Omni Royal Hotel in the French Quarter. We've just got a quick couple of questions we hope you can help with!
1) Does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably priced places to eat in the area?
2) As we're from the UK, we're not used to the whole 'tipping' culture, who are you expected to tip and how much??
3)We've planned a few trips & tours but does anyone have any recommendations for things to do specific to this time of year?
4)How crazy full on do people go for Halloween costumes? Is it worth taking one with us or better to buy there?
Hello, we are a couple in our late 30s going to NO on my spring break (teacher) in early April. I have a few questions if you could please help!
1) Hotel: We want to stay in the French Quarter/ Bourbon St area. Price: on a scale 1-10, 5-8 range. (moderate -nicer). Hotel must have a balcony and preferably a pool. Please suggest a few to look at. Don't want a tiny hotel but we do want that classic New Orl feel
2) Restaurants: We both love seafood. Same price range 5-8 on scale 1-10. Maybe 1 really nice place. What are the best seafood restaurants in French Quarter. We never are up for breakfast so just Lunch-Dinner ideas please. Best Jambalaya? Best authentic New Orleans spot? Best Cajun? Best creole? All suggestions please within 1 mile of the center of the French Quarter.
3) Music: Preservation Hall - we will go. Other classic Jazz suggestions? Admittedly not a Jazz expert so apologies for my ignorance. I do love to listed to 'faster' more upbeat Jazz Sounds. 3 or 4 piece bands with a piano, trumpet, or double bass. Nothing too upscale. Is there a street or 2 that have multiple jazz clubs to browse and listen to from outside then go in if we like?
4) Sightseeing: We plan on taking in the local French Quarter culture by meeting lot of people through going to Jazz clubs, restaurants and just taking in all the amazing architecture in the area. What are other sights we must do? We do not like museums. Prefer outdoor sights, architecture etc. We will see an above ground cemetery. Jackson Square (ideal type of sight we like). Riverboat tour you'd suggest?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I am bringing a group of honor students to a convention in NOLA in late June 2016. The group will consist of eighty students ages 16 to 18 and about fifty of the parents and siblings. I am looking for a venue for our last night in town that will allow them to experience the best food and music the city has to offer. However the typical nightlife on bourbon street is not age appropriate. Alcohol can be present but should not be the central focus of the activities. The students are in town to compete in group talent so they consist of many performers including instumentalists, vocalist, and dancers. They would truly appreciate and enjoy all that NOLA has to offer. Any suggestions would be great. Of course we are not made of money but we have set aside a reasonable budget just for this evening.
I'm traveling to New Orleans tomorrow and I'm not sure what type of jacket to take with me. The highs should be around 64 lows 42. Should I take a sweater or should I take my wool coat? Thanks!
I am planning a trip the French Quarter around Christmas this year. What is your favorite family hotel to stay at and why? What is it like during the Christmas holidays?
Hi I am from Chicago and have never been to New Orleans. Is Harvey Louisiana safe for 2 white girls 1 latina and 1 latino in their 20s? We will be going for Mardi Gras and traveling from the French Quarter back to our motel Sun Suites in Harvey Louisiana. Is that a good choice to stay at that motel? If anyone can compare Harvey Louisiana to a neighborhood in Chicago that would be great also. We will also be taking Uber or lyft between the two. Thank you for your time.
Has anyone flown long haul international with a carry on bag (plus a personal bag) only?
I'm travelling from Australia to New Orleans in January (my second trip in a year, I love the place!!) and I'm seriously considering just taking my carry on bag. I really couldn't be arsed lugging around that second bag, plus I'm going to be buying most of my clothes when I get there anyway.
do you think it can be done? Any tips?
Arriving in New Orleans at 9PM on a night the Saints play this month and staying next to the Dome. What kind of traffic delays should we expect traveling from the airport to the hotel by taxi ?
What things are there to do with an 18 year old at night?
My wife and girlfriend (her's not mine) are planning to get a cabin/resort about an hour north of the airport and renting a car to drive to the cabin. They want to drive down NEAR the city, find a TOUR group that will provide transportation into the city as well as the safety of being in a tour. We keep thinking tour group because I have read too many posts about two women in NOLA alone that I am not comfortable sending her there.
October visit. Your advice on specific tour groups would be appreciated.
Is Club 360 open? If yes, We have a group of 80 people that wants to go for sunset sometime in April 2016.
Are there any classes or teachers who will book privates with couples coming in from out of town?
Should we take the bus or is it easier to walk and sightsee?
We are visiting New Orleans in a couple of months for a big anniversary and are thinking of going to dinner at one of the following less touristy upscale restaurants: August, Upperline, Clancy's. Which one would you choose and why? If none of the above, where would you go and why?
We will be in NO on the above dates (leaving early evening on Christmas Eve) to go back home. I am from the UK and was wondering if there are Christmas celebrations here ? What would be a great place to go. we are on a cruise so no where too far away ? What is the name also where they make those great doughnuts ? Thanks guys xx

Can you take the river line street car to the Erato street cruise terminal in New Orleans?
Looks like it is going to be quite rainy the first couple of days we are in the French Quarter. We are not huge partiers so wondering if there are some recommendations for other activities besides bars? We will have a car so can even go a bit out of area if recommended. Thanks!
This is our first time attending Jazz Fest. We're staying at a hotel downtown and attending the first weekend of Jazz Fest. I'm looking for tips on how to get from the hotel to Jazz Fest, what to take along for the day and the best way to enjoy the music (chairs? blankets?) If you've been there, please tell me about it...
