which bars in nairobi show international rugby
Someone posted, that on their arrival they are not being allowed on their Turkish airlines flight because visas on arrival have been stopped in Kenya. I do not believe that this is true! Could anyone be having an idea?

My friend and I are travelling to Kenya in late September, staying in East Africa for 3 weeks in total. We are visiting a friend of mine who runs a charity, but obviously we want to do some exploring on our own (he's also busy with work, so won't have much time to tour guide). We're looking to use Nairobi as a base, but aren't aversed to the idea of travelling around, we'll be going to Tanzania at some point too.
We have both travelled independently and in small groups, so know about staying safe and not taking risks. That said, we're keen on all sorts and like a bit of adventure - hiking, interesting foods, animal related activities etc. We'll try anything once. But we're on a tight budget and don't want to blow it all on one big excursion like safari or anything like that. The quirkier the better. The cheaper the better. This goes for hostels as well.
Looking forward to hearing back from you all!

We, me and my wife plan a backpacker trip from Nairobi via Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru. Furthermore we want see Amboseli and Tsavo East and as the big finale we want stay on the beach for one week.
Have somebody some experience in this areas, and can give me advice. What ist the best kind for travelling, bus, taxi or something else. What could we visit on the way from Lake Nakuru to Amboseli and what would be the best route. If your have some good ideas please:) let me know.
Thanks in advance
I will be there for work. Thanks!
Hi. My son is crazy about animals. I am considering Masai Mara/ Amboseli Safaris in March 2011 (about 7 days around 3'rd week of Mach). However many websites advise against travelling to Kenya in March due to the long rains.
1. Does it rain really heavily in mid March?
2. How badly does it affect the game drives and animal sightings?
3. Is Malaria a major concern only during rains or through out the year?
4. If I do 'bite the bullet' & travel in March are the tented accomodations recommended? Any suggestions for family (kids) friendly lodges in Masai Mara?
5. The websites say that most of the lodges are unfenced. Does this pose a security problem and also is it safe with wild animals around in the loose?
Many thannks for any input. Appreciate feedback especially from those who have done a safari trip espcially in March.
Thanks & regards,
My mum has a conference in Nairobi from 4 November to 8 November. We would then take a 3 day excursion to the great rift valley.
My question: what does 'short' rains mean? Does it mean that they are shorter in length than the long ones (5 weeks)? Or does it mean that they are shorter each day? We don't want our trip to be a wash out.
Thanks for any advice and tips!
Hi, is anyone traveling to Nairobi anytime in October from Southern California?
Do you know how far the local bus stop and the direction from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the final stop in city centre? Thanks.
im planning a trip to kenya in september and i wish to hire a 4wd to visit a few of the parks in the south, mainly the masai and tsavo parks. but im a bit sceptical to do so in nairobi due to the on going reports of car jackings being a daily occurance.
does anyone know if its something to be concerned of enough to perhaps head somewhere a bit safer such as mombasa to do this or am i just being over paranoid.
i am planning on travelling through nairobi to a friends wedding in zambia. I have a 12 hour layover in nairobi. i'd really like some help asap as if its poor options i'll take a more expensive flight..

My husband and I are travelling to Africa in July/August and on the way home will arrive at NBO at 14:00 our next flight is not until 22:00. Bearing in mind that we will have to collect luggage and check in (different airlines) does anyone have any suggestions as to what we could do with the time?
We will already have spent 3 nights in Nairobi at the start of our trip.
I would like to know if anyone has the number for HOTEL GRETON in nairobi. I have been trying to contact them but i have been un able too.
I am returning to Kenya with three ladies that would like to see local artisans work and display their art (ex. paintings, stone or wood carving, pottery, etc.) They would especially enjoy being able to watch and interact with the artisans as they worked.
Does anyone know of a good place to go for this in or around Nairobi?
Thanks in advance
Does anybody have any recommendations for restaurants (or hotel restaurants) where we can have a very nice meal for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day in the Nairobi area? Does anybody do a special buffet?

my boyfriend, I and our 5 years old kid are planing to be in Nairobi the whole of september and need a clean, furnished appartment which should not be very expensive. Does anyone have information which could help us? Thanks in advance.
My boyfriend and I are currently looking for at least two travel partners to accompany us on a safari from Nairobi to Lake Turkana, leaving as soon as possible— preferably within the next week or so. (The smallest group size to book the trip is four people, and since it’s low season right now, there aren’t a lot of tourists around who want to travel north.) We're currently in Nairobi and, after spending the day looking at various companies, we found a 8-day itinerary to Lake Turkana with what seems to be a great, reliable company that includes travel to Samburu, Marsabit, Kalacha, the Chalbi Desert, Lake Turkana, Maralal, and back to Nairobi.
Costs are695 per person for the journey. (I also understand from LP that it is standard to tip your driver/guide and cook, so you should budget for that as well.) The cost includes 3 meals a day, park fees, camping equipment (minus a sleeping bag, which you can rent), etc. The company has semi-permanent camps at most of the places, and there are toilets and showers as well.
If you’re in Nairobi now, or will be in a few days and are interested in joining us, please e-mail me or post here. I’d be happy to give you more information.
Also, about us (so you know who you’d be traveling with!):
I'm 23, my boyfriend is 25. Both of us are originally from LA, but we lived in DC for the last two years, where I worked for a development organization and my boyfriend worked as a foreign policy research assistant. On April 1, we left DC to travel around the world for 6 months or more (until the money runs out!). We’re open to traveling with anyone who is excited about exploring all that the world has to offer!
What is the best solution to travel from Nairobi to Kilimajaro/Moshi or Arusha? And how it can cost?
Can anyone let me know the details of Indoor sports club in and around Westlands area.
I have had a quote from "Game Searchers" quoting me2300 per person for a 6 day flying safari staying 2 nights at Larsens in Samburu, 1 night in Mt. Kenya Safari Lodge and 2 nights at Little Governors in Mara.
Does anyone have any exprience with Game Searchers and can reccommend?
Also, does anyone else think this is a good deal or can reccommend another safari company doing similar thing for about2000 per person?
Can anyone help? We fly into Nairobi in August on a Sunday around 8am. We have our accomodation booked but cant book into our room until 2pm. Whilst we can use the facilities, I wanted to take advantage of this spare time. We only really have this day to go round Nairobi as the rest of the time will be spent on a 7 night safari. I wondered if it would be possible to squeeze a trip to the elephant orphanage. We're staying at the Holiday Inn, Nairobi. How practical is it to get from our hotel to the orphange in time to view the baby elephants before checking into our room for 2pm?
As part of our safari we will be staying in Nairobi for one evening at the start and end of our safari, before flying off to Mombassa. Some friends have recommended a restuarant in Nairobi called The Carnivore. We staying at the Holiday Inn. Having heard that Nairobi is not very safe to venture out, could anyone comment on the following:
a) how far is the carnivore from the Holiday Inn and the return cost in a taxi
b) If it is safe to use taxi's at night going straight from one place to another and back again
c) if the Carnivore is a place worth visiting
I would be grateful of any feedback, good or bad.
Anyone done this?
How safe do you think it is likely to be?
