Getting to Nags Head from New York City

Can anyone give me suggestions and options to get from New York to Nags Head with driving NOT an option.

I believe you can fly to an airport somewhere relatively nearby ? What about a coach and is the train an option ?

Do you mean Nag's Head, North Carolina?

If so, no, you need a car. You could take a train/bus to Washington D.C. and possibly another one to Norfolk/Virginia Beach area, but from there you would need to drive yourself. There would be no public transportation all the way to Nag's Head.

The closest commercial airport is ORF (Norfolk) It is about an hour and a half away from Naggs Head when there is light traffic. Cheapest air fare RT from NYC was on US Air at 260. I don't believe there are trains that will get you any closer but I will try to look later.

If driving really isn't an option then there are various companies who will pick you up from the airport and take you to Nags Head etc:

There is an airstrip in Kill Devil Hills(closer than Norfolk) but I think it is just for little private planes. Trains are absolutely NOT an option. There are not and never have been trains on the outer banks. It would be easier to do by boat than by train. There are ferry boats, but they don't go to Nags Head - they go Currituck to Knotts Island, to Hatteras and from Hatteras to Ocracoke

If for some reason you can't drive, then you will have to arrange pickup at Norfolk airport.

Nags Head without a car is a bad idea. It is just not set up to cater to non-drivers.

You can rent a bike for while you are there. The biking isn't bad
