I am organising this
We plan to arrive at Bucharest on the EN 473 train from Budapest, which is due to arrive at 11:20. We intend to catch the 12:13 to Istanbul. That leaves 53 minutes connection time obviously, which would normally be way too tight.
But this train is really ideal, it goes via central Romania and Brasov, and also gives us enough time to see Bratislava earlier in the trip. There is an earlier train we could get, which has an even tighter connection time at Timisoara at midnight, though I would suggest that the outbound will wait as it's just an internal Romania train and is clearly intended to pick up the down train from Budapest.
Anecdotal input is welcome, though any Romanians I have spoken to here have of course said not to trust the train timetable. But I need something harder, i.e from the station itself. seat61 has heard that it's usually no mor than half an hour, but I need that verifying further (seat61 recommends spending a night in Bucharest, which would be great but as you will see from the itinerary, that's not feasible) If you are in Bucharest and either know railway staff, or use the station regularly and could ask at the station as to how often, and by how much, the overnight sleeper from Budapest via Brasov is late (i.e has been late in the last year or so), I would be very grateful. If nether of these trains work we'd probably have to leave Romania out, which would be "nu vrumosc".
Multsumesc in advance for any help on this.
note:this information does exist, you cant run/fix a railway timetable unless you have this kind of stuff obviously, but its not always easy to get hold of.
Is there at the train station luggage storage in Bucharest?
Could somebody offer for me a cheap hotel or hostel in Bucuresti in the city center or near the center?
I am traveling from Bucharest to Chernivtsi on May 10th (flying in from Madrid). From what I have read here and in other places, it seems that the cost is about 44 euro, however, I can't find any actual website that says that. Is there one? I have been to but can't find any information about that route. Cernauti is Chernivtsi, right?
Can I buy tickets online at all, or is the only place to do that the train station? Additionally, if I need a ticket for the next day, will I be able to get it the day before or will that be a problem? Do I need to buy the ticket in advance at all, and is it best to buy round trip right away, or buy them separately? Also, what exactly is the bedding supplement? Sorry for all the questions, however, I have not been able to find this information anywhere else.
Thank you all in advance!
i need some specific advice.
What is the best way to get from the Railway Station (Gara de Nord) to the Airport Otopeni in Bucharest? I arive friday at 18.45 and i have to catch a plain at 22.15.
I know that this is rush time.
Should i get a taxi directly, or get a Metro (?) and pick a taxi from a location which is closer to the airport. (if any)
thanks in advance
I am gonna travel to Bucharest after a week and on my way to Iasi, i thought of clearing up some issues in Ministry of Education located in Bucharest. But the problem is of luggage. Thanks to this forum, I was given locations and ways to get to the Ministry of Education. I also got to know that I can store my luggage in Garah De Nord. My only question is that is it saif to put the luggage there? I am asking this because i have heard many bad stories happening in Bucharest like theft and robbing. So I just want to make sure its a safe place to keep luggage for an hour or 2.
Also does anyone know any other safe place to store luggage? Like in the Airport or some kind of police station? If anyone knows, please let me know.

I wonder if there are any thermal baths that don't require me staying in a hotel. We have accommodation sorted, but would like to have a thermal bath one afternoon. Also in Romania are the baths segregated or can a couple go in together (with swimwear - I am English you know). Thanks in advance for your help. Oly

I want to see as much hand carved wood gates and seminiu soba as possible. Are there any villages that are known for there craftsmen. Probably many i'm sure.

I will be in Romania (coming from budapest) from jan 17th. The train network looks very comprehensive. I have 14 days to get from Budapest to Krakow (poland) via Romania (Timisoara, Sibiu, Brasov, Sighisoara) and then spend a few days near the northern monastries before crossing into ukraine (South East - Lviv) before heading to krakow for a night to fly out.
I have been to Budapest, Krakow before, so I am only spending a night in each. Is the train pretty direct (6 hours, I think) to Timisoara. Whats the best way to get to those monastries from brasov? Is it best to go to Sucueva? Whats the best town in Romania to travel into Ukraine and onto Lviv?
Any help is appreciated!
Anyone know how old the Inn really is? When does it date back to originally? The farthest back I can find is the 16th century but I'm fairly certain its older. Anyone know for sure?
