Hi Everyone, I have been reading up on previous comments. What is the driving situation is now between Tofo Beach and Vilankulos? Safe? Road conditions? Does anybody know whether dive shops in Tofo Beach area might offer a private transfer for this distance? Thank you. Joyce
Have any of you had any experiences with the Mozambique flag? In particular, the AK47 on it? I'm looking to hear of any light-hearted / humorous stories from you.
I have written about unique cultural quirks about different countries including the naming convention in Iceland, night-hunting in Bhutan, Nature in Ecuador, 'tarof' in Iran, etc and am currently intrigued by Moz's flag which is the only country to feature an automatic weapon on it's flag. I do not intend this to be a political article, hence am looking for perspectives from travellers / tourists to Moz.
Many thanks for such a wonderful site, with answers to all kinds of questions about Mozambique that I did not even know I had!
My wife and I are winging it through Southern Africa. Right now we're finding ourselves in Tofo with one week till we catch a plane out of Maputo. While Tofo is nice, it would be pleasant to see somewhere else in Mozambique before we leave. Any suggstions would be very gratefully received!
We thought of sending perhaps a night or two in Barra, if we can find affordable accommodation.
Someone suggested Xai-Xai but from what I can gather, there is little to do there and the beach is a car-drive away: and we don't have a car.
People in Tofo have warned us against spending much time in Maputo: they don't seem to like and figure we will end up with endless hassle from the police. Having had plenty of that in the Beira area already, we'd rather avoid it if possible. There is however a very convenient bus that'll whizz us from here to Maputo.
Anyway, I hope the experts on this site might be able to give me a suggestion. How would you spend a few pleasant days in this part of the country?
I kindly ask for assistance with regards the trip I am planing in April. Its for 4 ladies and we would like to go to Maputo, Bilene from Johannesburg via the greyhound bus. I would like some advice on how to get there as it is our first time traveling outside and some safe tips. thank you!!!

Accordingly, does anyone have experience getting a Mozambique visa in Swaziland or Cape Town??
I've just booked flights to Mozambique for Christmas and have now heard it gets very busy with holidaying south africans. My question is - how busy is busy? Will I need to book everything in advance? Are there any areas which might be quieter (would Inhassoro and Villanculo be better than Tofo and Inhambane for example?), or any areas best avoiding because they are too busy?
Am hoping I'm not going to regret travelling when I am!
We would like to travel by road from Lake Malawi via the Mandimba Border post to Nacala in December 2014.

Would appreciate any answers.
How much does drinking water cost in Mozambique in SA Rands if possible?
Hi! I am in the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia and would like to travel to Vilanculos in Mozambique. Flights are incredibly expensive ($1000 +) and inconvenient so I would like to do it by other means... I have heard, by word of mouth, that I could take a bus to Chipata, then a bus to Katete, cross the boarder at Cassacatiza, take a bus to Tete and then I would be able to find a bus to Vilanculos...However I have not been able to find this information online. Can anyone advise? or suggest bus companies? Furthermore I need a visa for Mozambique so does anyone know if i can get this at the Cassacatiza boarder? Any advice is highly appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks in advance for any advice youve got for me :). Myself and husband want to hire a car on Jan 15th and drive up to Mozambique. Have always wanted to visit mozambique and am very excited. We need to be back with the car and to get our flight home on Jan 30th. We need to travel back via Gaborone (where we will need to stay for at least 3-4 days) before going back to Joburg.
Can anyone suggest the best itinerary bearing in mind our time frames? Any worthwile places to stop on way from Joburg to Maputo? Stay time in Maputo- 3 days? Head up to Inhambane and Tofo? Worth going further up to the islands? We would have to come back via the same route to get back to Gabs? Any ideas on itinerary much appreciated
Also any suggestions for best budget car hire company- type of car needed (im guessing we wont really need a 4x4 or am i underestimating the roads?) and the company which will allow us to go in to mozambique and bots and set us up with all the right equipment needed for road checks (if that exists).
Also any advice on getting visas on british passports. Can we get them at the border?
Hi, I'm planning to visit Tofo in early february, but I'm wondering about the weather, because of hurricane risk. What's the chance of bad weather? Is it still good for diving?

What is the best way to get from the Maputo airport to Praia Do Bilene Mozambique? To put it into context, we are two young females wanting to travel on some form of public transport. We are wanting to leave on the 27 Dec.
Can a visa be obtained at the border or in Durban, within a day? We are travelling from the UK to Durban and want to go onto Mozambique. We are all Austrian citizens, holding EU Passports. thanks

I would be really very happy, if you could inform us about helpful advises, nice camping sizes, diving centers.
Thanks a lot in advance!
We are coming to Africa in October, fly into Joburg on the 6/10/12, we want to drive from Johburg to Maputo. Going thru Kruger and Swaziland. We are having trouble finding a car that we can pick up in Johburg and drop in Maputo, as we have friends there, and won’t be returning back to Johburg.
If you can help in anyway, we would greatly appreciate it.
